This is my 1,000th post in the forum; I have no idea how I have a thousand posts but I do, it is weird; probably 99 percent of those posts were to say something like "that's awesome", or "what a cool knife dude", and many of them were "I'll take it", or maybe a rant, but I really hope that I haven't been grievous to anyone here, and if I have, then I'm sorry, I have never meant any harm.

Also, this serves to celebrate that I have finally achieved my savings goal, and will place an order for an Emerson Roadhouse as soon as I'm done writing this; I didn't plan it this way, it just happened, and I am a happy camper; I'll be happier when I get it in the mail. As a side note, and some of you know this already, I broke my back at work 9 years ago, I live in chronic pain, and I'm in a very limited budget, so it takes a long time to save up to buy a knife.

Last year I had a spout of knife-buying frenzy, and foolishly maxed one of my credit cards; then I had an emergency with my mom and had to take an unexpected trip; so I sold almost every knife I had to finance the expenses (no I did not sell my Horseman nor my CQC8), and I also cancelled a bunch of orders I had placed with a fixed blade company ( some very nice fixed blades, btw); but things are getting a little better and life goes on.

To make this a more memorable event, I am also giving away some of the stuff I received as the winner of Chance's new year's GAW (forum name Ferdinand) , I think it was last month or the beginning of the year, some of you will remember that; back in that thread I said I would share what I got, I try to keep my word since it is all I have that has any value, and I think that moment has arrived since the stars have aligned just in the perfect way to do it.

This is what is going to be given to some of you fellow Emerson fans, a bottle Koozie, I think that is what it is called (I don't drink beer so I will never use it, so out it goes to someone who might put it to better use than me), a Spade challenge coin, an Emerson challenge coin, 7 Stickers (5 two inch stickers and 2 four inch ones), 2 glow in the dark patches, and two velcro backed patches; for pictures of the items you can visit this link, or thread:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...Emerson-swag-pictures?highlight=Swag+pictures

I kept an Emerson challenge coin and a couple of stickers for myself, the rest is going out to you guys, at least to 14 of you. Each winner will get one of those items, I know it is not much, and I can probably give the whole package to a single person, but I think is better to spread the love and appreciation for Emerson among those of you who are fans of the company and of course, the man behind the company.

I know that at least some of you guys, including myself, don't have a lot of resources to buy extra stuff, and it is nice to get something in the mail, even if it is just a sticker of your favorite knife company; so just post below that you are in (there is just one condition below), and you will be considered.

I have taken the liberty to assign my 12 year old grand daughter, and my 8 year old grand son to choose the 14 people who shall get an item from this Gaw, so even if it is free to participate, you will have to write why you are an Emerson fan, that is the only condition, period. Be creative, and make it worth the reading for all of us, and for my grand kids, they are also getting a prize (a small Spyderco knife) for doing this so everyone wins. Plus I am trying to show them that a lot of people love these knives, not only their grandpa.

I will announce who has been the winner of what on the last day of this month, which is also a memorable date since it is a leap year.

Ok, that is enough talk from me for now guys; I'd like to take this as an opportunity to thank Chance again for his generosity, and of course to Ernie for his generosity to make this happen in the first place; I am supposed to keep it to myself, but I have to say what I was told, this swag went through some very special hands before it got to me, it was not disclosed whose hands they were, but I can only assume it was a SEAL Team in San Diego, of course this is only an assumption of mine, but whoever those hands belonged to, they are indeed special if Chance says so.
Thank you for your time to read this and celebrate with me.
I'll post pictures of my Roadhouse when I get it, I can't wait. :)

Emerson makes a simple yet strong folder that is a joy to use and carry.
Thank you.

I'm in and thanks for doing this and paying it forward as it were.

I am an Emerson fan for many reasons. I have had many knives from many makers and somehow always managed to gravitate back to an Emerson. They are solid well built knives that are extremely easy to maintain and adjust. Have an excellent warranty and are built 100% in the good old USA all the way down to the screws.

You can also call them up and get a person on the phone EVERY time if they are open of course. I am also a fan of the no BS way Ernest handles things, honest and straight to the point. I am sure I could keep going but there's the bones of why there is always an Emerson in my pocket.

Very cool. Paying it forward seems to be something true eki fans do to celebrate with fellow eki brothers and sisters. This is one of the reasons i enjoy this addiction. Many people not all but many are willing to help other eki brother and sisters anytime. Many eki nuts know to put others ahead of ones self. Fantastic community.

Congrats op, said itr before but again i am so glad this original GAW went to a great sharing eki brother...

Enjoy the roadhouse, it will serve you well.

Thank you for doing this. It is very kind and generous of you. To me, it is not the value of an object that makes it important. Rather, it is the intent with which it is given. It is this intent that gives something an intangible value above all else. For me, the value in an Emerson knife follows along that philosophy. It is the values and beliefs of the maker of a knife that give that knife its intrinsic value. Emerson knives are the embodiment of what Ernest Emerson stands for. To me, this alone makes his knives my daily carry. My next Emerson will be an E.T.A.K. B satin finish plain edge.

Like yourself, I cannot drink beer anymore (thank you diabetes), but I would sure love one of those patches.

Thank you for the chance!

A combination of tool and sidearm. The item that never fails, when everything else has. When I carry my Emerson knives, I know that they're there to serve me in whatever I need, and those sharp little bastards will always ask for more.

Congrats on 1,000. And thank you for the chance at some cool swag. I'm in. Here is why I am on emerson fan. It kinda grew. I was looking for an affordable but undestructable knife. I ran across emerson I like the function and thought behind the blade designs, the screws, the choice of steel, the chisel grind. Different, efficient, simple. But left room for one to make it their own if they wanted. Researching more about the brand I came to understand what the man behind the knive stood for, integrity, work ethic, patriotic, family, God and Country. A lot are things I aspire to stand for. And in hanging around the forums I came to enjoy the other folks who enjoy these knives, they have a lot of similar sentiment, cool ideas and wicked knives.

The reason I carry Emerson knives is reliability. That's it! I can count on them to work every single time I ever need to use it. Whether I'm opening a bag of candy or in some sort of emergency, I can always count on an Emerson to help me. I have a lot of cheap knives as well that I use as EDC beaters. Knives I'm not worried about losing or breaking, but If I'm heading out camping or somewhere that I'll need my knife to be there for me 100% of the time I grab an Emerson or a ZT. It's the same reason I have some expensive flashlights. I don't trust one of my Chinese flashlights if I'm heading into a cave or something. I grab a surefire and then I know I'll be safe!

Thanks for the chance :D

Thanks for the opportunity. I carry an Emerson cause it is absolutely the sharpest knife that I have and it is a pleasure to work with the 154 steel and resharpen as needed. The handle and blade make it a strong knife that will handle any task I can give it. Made in America with some of the Greatest worker's in the World!!!!!!!!!!

I've been Emerson fan from the day I wanted my first one and unfortunately couldn't afford it. Design, blade choices...Tanto time, steel along with great handle materials look mean but sophisticated. Tough and dependable, they beat most knives to my pocket.

Why am I an Emerson fan? Well it goes all the way back to the Soondayan conflict on Fiercies 4.

I had just entered orbit around the remote, rocky, desert planet in my Boolean 47 long range scout transport, when seemingly out of nowhere, I was ambushed by a Soondayan patrol. My ship took heavy damage, and I lost all controls.

Free falling towards the planet, I had to think quickly, as I knew I now had no heat shielding. Using the the manual hydraulic control, I managed to deploy the rear vertical stabilizer (with much effort), and this at least corrected the lateral spin.

Now I had a few moments to asses the situation. Noticing a red glow starting on the nose cone, I knew I had only seconds until the friction of the atmosphere would burn the ship, and everything in it, to a cinder. Fighting the rising panic, and adrenaline rush, I reached forward and grasped the ejection seat lever, and gave it a hard yank. The explosive bolts on the canopy fired, and I was hurdled out of the cockpit with surprising force. As my chute opened, slowing my decent, I looked down only to see my ship dissolve in a fiery streak.

Several minutes later, I found myself on the surface of the planet, with only what I had on my person. Two days ration of water, freeze dried nutrition supplements, a portable GPS navigator, a basic small survival tin, and two Emersons. A CQC-8, and a Combat Systems Fighter (CSF).

As I scanned the rocky, inhospitable terrain, I realized I was very much in the middle of nowhere. Checking the GPS, I found I was about a day and a half walking distance from Tantren, the nearest friendly outpost. I also new it wouldn't be too long before that Soondayan patrol would come looking for survivors. With a sigh, I mustered my resolve and started walking in the direction of Tantren.

I made camp the first night, with no incident. However, the next day would prove more difficult, and test my resolve; I soon ran into the Soondayan patrol. Three of the biggest meanest looking Model 14 Warbots you've ever seen. Needles to say, they weren't there to welcome me to the neighborhood.

The alpha unit approached me and demanded that I "SURRENDER IMMEDIATELY!" I saw that they were in their typical tactical formation, the alpha in front, and the other two flanking his rear. Like a triangle. It was go time. Fight or flight. I chose Fight.

In one smooth motion, I waved the CQC-8 from my right front pocket, and thrust the Blade up under the alpha's chin, penetrating the rubber seals, and creating a shower of sparks as it's CPU exploded. Without hesitating I waved the CSF from my left pocket in a reverse grip, took two giant steps toward the secondary unit on the left, and leaped into the air. As I came down, I jammed the blade into the junction between it's right shoulder and neck, damaging the servos just as it was raising it's gun. In the next split second, I forced the blade of the CQC-8 into the side ventilation port of it's head, instantly deactivating it's CPU.

Then I heard the first shot from the third units carbine. The shot struck the Flexi-Lite armor on my right shoulder with a powerful thud. The armor stopped the bullet, but the impact sent pain shooting through my shoulder, arm and neck. I had no time to worry about that yet, as it looked like I had brought knives to a gun fight. Grabbing onto the disabled secondary unit, I spun, and placed it between me and the third unit to act as a shield. Reaching down with my left hand, I grabbed the deactivated unit's carbine, and released a barrage of fire in the direction of the third unit. It was spray and pray, but I didn't have the best footing, and a couple of shots struck the unit in the torso, causing just enough damage to confuse it momentarily. I raised the sight of the carbine to my eye, and this time aiming, pulled the trigger. CLICK! not the sound I wanted to hear. I charged the weapon, and found the magazine was empty. Running and leaping toward the third unit, I wielded the carbine like a club, and struck it hard in the face plate. It stumbled backward, and as it was trying to regain it's balance, I struck again. This time it fell over backward. I quickly jumped on top of it and drove both Emersons as hard as I could into the ventilation ports on its head. CPU deactivated, the unit lay still in the dirt.

The rest of the trip was uneventful, using the Emersons for more mundane tasks like fire building, cutting open rations, and dispatching the occasional Harpy Fly.

So why do I like Emersons? Because no matter where you may find yourself in the galaxy, they get the job done. They are well made, well designed, rugged, and very useful. Plus they are cool, and Ernie is the man!

Oh, by the way, I'm in.:D

Super generous of you, dude!
I'm an Emerson fan for several reasons, one, I rely on a knife for work every single day, and I know that I want a knife that will not fail, so I go with the obvious choice.
Two, the very first time I picked up an Emerson, it felt like more than a knife. It felt like picking up something that had a soul. That probably sounds weird, but no other knife has ever done that for me.
Third, the man himself, Ernie. He's what I hope to be once I reach that age.
Emerson's are built to do one thing, work. That's why I will always have one in my pocket.

Congrats on your 1K! Thanks for the chance, I'm in!
I started my knife hobby at Big 5, that's right, before I know anything about "real knives" I was a big fan of Big 5 weekly specials..lol!! One day a buddy of mine came to my house and at that time I've just moved into a new place so I was installing those wall mount towel racks. He said he wanted help but I only have one screw driver so he told me he can just use his pocket knife as a screw driver. It was a 7 that he used to put 2 toilet paper holders and a towel rack on my wall. I was very impressed and I want to try it with my knife too. Long story short, I snapped the tip of my SW knife on the first try and we both start laughing then he pull out his 7 and showed to me. My first impression was, hefty and stout....I WANT ONE! I still remember it was a 99 CQC-7 non waved. Not sure if was the Big 5 or EKI, but the "want" when I fist time hold that 7 was strong!!!

Emerson makes the most comfortable, low maintenence, coolest looking trusted hard use knives I am confident to carry and use on a daily basis. That is why I am a fan.

Thank you for the generous opportunity!

Cool GAW--thanks for the generosity!

I am an Emerson fan, though at first I was not--I could not understand what the big deal was... and I read many posts bashing EKI. Yet something drew me to them... and I realized many of the bashers were just talkers, without experience, trying to sound knowledgeable or prop up their purchases and favorites. So I decided to see for myself--and was hooked. I'm done with other folders... sold them all, and now just carry Emersons. For me, they have the perfect formula of materials, ergos, and man, oh man, the grinds... these bad boys cut better than anything.

My Super 7 is my favorite... the Roadhouse is a contender though... the 13, bad@ss, and the Commander--well, commands respect!

Good luck to all!

I became an Emerson fan after searching for my perfect knife. It turned out to be a CQC-10 which forced all other knives out of my pocket. I sold off my Spydercos and Benchmades and now my favorite hobby is finding heavily used Emerson's and bringing them back to life. I just bought this Sark off of ebay and plan on sharpening, replacing the hardware, and having orange G10 scales made for it. Emerson's keep working even after a lot of other knives would have given up.

Almost forgot to say thank you for this awesome giveaway!

So far I have read some really good posts here, the common thread is of course the true appreciation for these blades, which unites us in a very real way; it is very cool to see for sure.

I wanted all to know I'm adding another item to the GAW; it is not really an Emerson branded item but I know it will be useful for one of you; about ten years ago I got two of these, I don't even remember where I got them, but you can use them for a multitool, a flashlight, or as you can see, my Horseman fits perfectly in it. It is also Molle compatible, and it is adjustable, I have tried other knives in it and it works; maybe for a bug out bag or your belt.
I have a brand new one with the tag still attached to it, so now we have a price for at least 15 Emerson fans; I thought it would be cool to add it, my grand kids agreed, so that settles the matter.
Here are a couple of pics:

I carry an Emerson mainly for what Mr. Emerson represents. He is for America and by America and that resonates with me. Also I carry/collect his knives because each one has its own individual story/history as mentioned by Mr. Emerson. All that aside his knives are very ergonomic and super sharp and using it at work is awesome because it just doesn't skip a beat. It feels great in the hands and there is so much variety that I am able to rotate through the different knives to match where I am going and what I am going to do.

Thanks for the gesture and thread. Please count me in.
I am an Emerson fan for the quality and the Emerson opener. I love the way that the knife deploys when it leaves the pocket. A great feature to have. I love the reliability and strength of the frame locks as well. The disk thumb stud is great as well. I also love the Emerson Sheepdog clip point. Emerson makes one nasty clip point blade. Emerson makes some great stuff.:thumbup:

Not an entry. As I don't own an Emerson yet. I do want to say thanks for helping make this place a great place to pass the time and learn about knives. I'm glad you are passing your love along to your grandchildren. And congrats on 1000 post.
