Good day all,
I thought i would share my first blade that is in the process of taking shape. I am making the knife for a hunting buddy of mine, and hope to hav it finished within the next month.

All the work on teh blade was done by hand, except for the holes, that was done on my drill press, but teh rest was cut by hacksaw, filed by file, and sanded by hand.....I am not in the process of taking out the nicks and scratches and finishing the blade. The handle will most probably be Zebra bone.....

Let me know what you guys think of the project so far.....

Cheerio....

The only thing I would change is the way that the ricassso drops way down in the front. This is going to interfere with a good portion of the back of the blade. It will also make it a PITA to sharpen.
I would take the bottom edge of the ricasso straigh back from your blade edge through your plunge and gradually taper into your finger groove.
Looks great otherwise.
Good Luck!

Matt,

Thanks for teh feedback, but all that means nothing to me, as i said i am new to this and dont know the terminoloy and stuf you reffered to....Is there maybe a sketch of a knife that indicates what is what somewhere on the site?

Thanks....

Looks good to me. What kind of steel and what kind of heat treat did you have in mind?

Hi all,

Answering all questions in one post,
- The steel I use is N690 knife steel
- As for heat treat, I will be sending the knife to a shop for heat treat, as I am new and dont have the facility yet to heat treat....Any suggestions?
- As for teh grind, it was hand filed, or whatever else you call it, as i dont have a grinder at this point in time....

Thanks for all teh comments and suggestions guys....

Regards from a sunny South Africa....
