I have been deer hunting since I was 12 and have killed lots of deer with a gun. I bought a bow 10 years ago, and hunted for a bit, without any sucess. Then the Army decided it was time for me to go overseas and the bow went in to storage. Then duel deployments and then an assignment to the California Desert. So here it is 10 years later and finally get back to bowhunting. Opening day (OCT 15th) my buddy killed a doe and today I connected with a button buck. It will make great table fair for sure!!! I am including a few photos. I was using a single cam jennings buckmaster bow and 4 blade 100 grain broadheads. The deer only ran 40 or so yards and dropped. To me this was long over due no doubt. I have always been a meat hunter and not an antler hunter and have had the chance to harvest some decent animals in the process.

Congrats. I'm still waiting for my first bow kill too. I like the 'interior' shot by the way :)

Cool, that interior pic is awesome by the way. You can clearly see the damage an arrow makes

Nice shot!! looks like You nailed both lungs and the top of the heart? Good shootin'

congrats - glad to hear your a meat hunter - hunting is about food not sport imho!

i once took a deer that you could still barely make out the faded spots on it - sure was tender meat!

That first bowkill sure makes it all worthwhile doesn't it. Congratulations. Looks like a very well placed shot too.

As for being a meat hunter and not a trophy hunter, I still haven't figured out how to cook those antlers so they taste right. Doe's are just fine for me.

My very first hunting trip was with a bow. On the second evening I connected with a doe. I have been hooked ever since! Nice shooting!

Congratulations! One of my goals is to take a deer with a bow, string, arrows, and points I made - skin it, butcher it, (brain) tan the hide.

Ways to go yet.

Oh btw, you probably can't eat antlers, but you can use them to make a lot of interesting things - bodkins, awls, arrow points, netting needles, buttons, top bearing for bow drill set, etc.

The two netting needles at the top left are made from antler, moose, in this case.

Awl and bodkin (deer tines).

Top bearing for bow drill (moose in this case, but deer will work just fine).

Man, thats neato. I wish I had more time for hunting. If I was closer to my parent's place I could hunt there a lot. But as it is I get to hunt ~once a year.
