1st chute knife

thank you for the kind words gentleman :) zuluninja, here is the spine shot you requested. happy 4th of july everyone !

John:

EXCELLENT - every knife is a journey and you had a good one on this fine chute.

That's a handsome knife. It doesn't look like an easy piece to put together. Everything flows together really well.

What a great looking Chute , first try, too!!! As you can see from my avatar, this fits my taste perfectly.

Very nice work.
Also reassuring to see that I'm not the only one making Loveless style knives from non-stainless steel.
I've made a few from RWL-34, but for some reason I just prefer using stuff like 1095, 80CrV2 and 01.
I've never understood the whole 'rustophobia' thing!

Ian.

i appreciate all the comments :) irbailey, i thought i was the only one too ! i do not have the equipment for the stainless steel heat treat. everything i have made is high carbon. but i noticed, the mirror finish plays into the rust resistance. i have made blades with a 400 grit satin finish, and get a drop of water on them and in very short time there is an orangish circle after you wipe off the drop. with mirror high carbon, you dont have to rush to wipe it off. i have been carrying my 1084 edc for over a year, its used for everything. gets wet all the time. its scratched, marred, has tape goo in it from boxes. but no rust.

What are the dimensions of the Chute Knife? OAL, handle \ blade, thickness etc? Is the top clip sharpened?

Thanks it's worth looking at more than once.

Couldn't agree more. I've done the same with 80CrV2 and 01.
If I had the equipment I'd probably use a bit more stainless, but I just prefer high carbon for some reason. Mind you, I'm a bit old fashioned like that...I still love a carbon blade and brass fittings for example...not something many people are into nowadays!

Ian.

i agree matt ! thank you braillediver- overall 8 15/16". blade 4 1/2" from guard face. handle 4 5/8" including guard. 3/16" stock. top edge is sharpened.

The high polish makes it hard to judge the lines of the grind work, but it really looks like you did an excellent job! I love the mirror polish you put on your work.

Exceptional job no matter whether first of 50th attempt. Nice adherence to the Loveless design.
The grinds look like they be slightly wash-out or not as crisp as they could be but then it could just be the photo or the high polish making them appear that way.

thank you ! not as crisp as a real loveless, but i wouldent call them washed out either :) its in the mail on its way to the buyer , maybe he can comment when he gets it.

It's extremely hard to properly capture a mirror-polished knife BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU that the grinds are just lovely and absolutely NOT 'washed-out'....ask me how I know. ;)

Man, how am I just now seeing this!?

I have only one word for that knife...PERFECTION!
