1st Folder Ever Arrived Today...Started with a Strider

That's a bold first step! Congratulations, I really like the look of Striders with simple finishes like yours, tiger stripes and digicam just aren't my cup of tea.

I hope you enjoy it a lot.

The SMF is a good match with the 1911. Nothing out of this world but just works! Both can handle a lot of use, get the job done and can be rebuilt over and over.

Got it from a dealer in Va. Beach. Matt D. Tactical in Alexandria is a dealer. Thanks for the warm welcome...

I get the sense that this Strider is like my Ed Brown, a semi custom end product, completely made by hand of custom parts and premium materials. That is why I bought it, I didn't want to go down the road of tinkering with knives that might scratch the itch for the time being. I did that with guns and ended up wasting time and money! My goal was to get a knife that would keep me happy until I could learn more about the lay of the land...plus I am impatient and compulsive, and hate waiting on anything!

I think your analogy is 100% accurate here. I think the outcome will also be the same.

Congrats and welcome. As you learn also start looking into how to sharpen. You'll be amazed how much variety and satisfaction there is on that topic.

I promise to search the forums high and low on topics before starting the thread and asking a greenhorn question!

Assembled by hand.

A nice blade nonetheless.

Congrats on an excellent purchase!

But be careful. It's a slippery slope.

My first high quality knife purchase was a Microtech Socom Delta at the beginning of this year. Then came the ZT 0561, LionSteel SR-1 Ti, Microtech DOC, Emerson Roadhouse, etc etc. About 10 months later, I have more than $2000 in knives, and honestly that's pretty meek compared to some folks here. Seriously, it can turn into an addiction very quickly.

With that said, I bought my Strider DGG SMF only a few weeks ago and already have a CC SMF on the way. But a word of advice, mentioning Strider knives or more specifically Mick Strider can really stir up some strong opinions here on BladeForums, so tread lightly.

I bought the knife, not the man, and I plan on steering clear of that can of worms! Thanks for the heads up.

LOL! It took me years of collecting to finally get my dream Strider a couple weeks ago.
Congrats. :)

I have a SNG an I love it! After owning and selling a hundred knives I can honestly say that my SNG is one of the best. Simple, rugged, refined, good looking, and functional.
You just bought an Audi R8 as your first car. Enjoy it!

Thanks guys, I have to be honest, I buy and sell stuff on ebay, and basically turned a $5 investment into this Strider...I never saw the money since it was in PayPal, and that is probably a good thing! Plus, my wife wants kids soon, so I know my days of buying high dollar toys is coming an end for the foreseeable future...I need to get as many while I can.

If you like the standard SMF, this sounds like a good time to look at MSCs (Mick Strider Customs). ;)

Might I suggest something? I used to be one of those guys who bought knives when the checking account allowed it and tried to get the package myself so my wife wouldn't see it. A few months back we sat down and created a budget. I now have X dollars a week in my personal spending allowance (aka knife fund). Every payday I transfer that amount from our checking to my Paypal account. I also got a Paypal debit card so when I sell knives and ship them at the post office I can use the card and have all my spending confined to Paypal. (also works as a nice workaround since Knifeworks doesn't take Paypal anymore - they do take Paypal debit card :) )

Anyways, set things up similar to this and the guilt is gone and you can buy cheap or expensive knives (in time) and keep your finances in check for your growing family.

It helps if your wife has something she likes to spend money on too like shoes, jewelry...knives? :D

Tell your wife that knives are cheaper than kids, you don't have to feed knives or send them to college, and knives won't put you in an old people's home when you become geezers :)
