As the title states this is my first Hidden Tang and Soldered Guard...
Comments and Critiques welcome!

Steel (Blade & Guard): 1/4" O1
Handle: Canvas Micarta (White)
Pin & Thong: 1/8" & 1/4" Stainless Steel
OAL: 10"
Blade Length: 5"

I Pined the guard in place and Heat Treated Blade and Guard to 1500F. Tempered 3 times in oven @ 400F. Silver Soldered the guard and Epoxied the handle in place... Sanded everything to 1000 Grit. The White micarta seemed very soft IMO took very little effort to remove material by hand. The knife is bigger than it looks in my hand (I have large hands and the blade is angled away from the camera)

Thanks for looking
Ryan

I like it a lot.The fit and finish is very good.

To me the way the guard and thumb grove is makes it look to my eye like the back of the handle should be lower. It's just a preference thing but I think it would flow better if the top of the handle and spine of the blade were in line.

Just a little critique since you asked. It's nothing but an opinion and only worth what you paid.

Thanks for the input everyone... I agree on the Handle needing to be lower on the spine, I acutally took it down some. I could bring it down a little more still I will have to think about that!

I am in the Bountiful, Utah area....

I Took the handle spine down a bit and I like it a lot better, I also tried my hand at Forced Patina (I used mustard and kept it very light) I figured If i didnt like it I could just sand it off! I also made a sheath for it...

As always... Let me know what you think.

Outstanding knife and sheathwork. You will find that when it comes to style, not everyone will love a particular knife, but it is important for fit and finish to be top notch whatever the style is. I think for your first hidden tang, you hit this one out of the park. I still struggle getting it all to fit up that nicely on the occasional hidden tang I make.

The sheath looks very well done also.

Ryan, I have to say that the small changes you made to the handle make a night and day difference in my mind. Before, the knife looked kind of hump-backed or handle heavy. Your changes really sharpened up the knife. Great job.

That really looks nice wiht the hew changes. Although I don't care for rivets , the sheath work looks good also .

Thanks Nathan, Joe and Lycosa for the kind words!

I agree that the slight change made a huge difference, it was hump backed and looked strange. I am continually amazed how sometimes the smallest details can make or break the look of a knife!

That is so much better than my first effort that to compare them would be silly.

Hey Andy, Thanks for the advice (in a PM) I have 3 blanks cut out and will be working on my Flat Grinds specifically!
