Hi y'all,

I've been making a knife in school for my semester long assignment. I'm almost done. Below are the photos up to this point.

I started an earlier thread, that got cold with other previous info from early this year.

Since I'm new to the knifemaking world, I'm looking for Info on Convex Grind & other good Grinding Info. Video is a plus as I'm a better visual learner. I'm about to do a Convex grind because it's a bit thin & it's my 1st knife.

I have access to a belt grinder and belts from 40-120 grit & polishing stones. I know to not completely grind it down before heat-treating, so I'll be leaving about 20% unground to help keep any potential warpage to a minimum. I'd also appreciate any other tips on grinding plus info on other grinds, hollow, flat, saber & otherwise.

Thanks :)

Look up Gavkoo on Youtube and search for "Convex Grinding" you should be able to find some videos. Gav has tons of other helpful knife making videos too FYI. :)

try to find

Flat Grinding Blades-Harvey Dean-ISO

That is a strong recommendation from the count. Take what you see in that video (but think of what works best for YOU) and look at these posts I put in the youtube sticky thread, posts 43 & 44 at the bottom of the page.

I haven't seen anyone else post that process before and I looked pretty hard so I figured I'd film how to do a proper "Moran Edge"/flat grind/convex edge straight from the horse's mouth.

Is that what you were looking for?

Hello,

Sorry for the much delated response. School has me very busy.

I found Gavko knives. He is very good and inspiring. I found many helpful links for getting started in bladesmithing on his website. I'm looking forward to viewing more of his videos.

I'm guessing Iz Turley is Turley Knives. I must delve more into his videos.

I haven't looked in depth for Flat Grinding Blades-Harvey Dean-ISO, but my surface scratch search has only turned up torrent sites, which I have not yet learned how to operate.

I'll be spending more time on the knife during the summer when I finally have some personal time.

Thanks for the advice, please keep it up :)

I've seen probably all of the convex grinding video's on youtube and I own the Harvey Dean DVD. Having said that, I think Mr. Gossman explains it as well or better than most. How to convex grind

Thanks 12345678910 :)

Thanks Mudbug007. Mr. Gossman's video is very helpful. It'll be Mid June to July before I'll finish the grind. Got some more school and cold work to finish before the heat treat.

Will post more photos to the gallery https://plus.google.com/photos/11092...MmSx4H6iJGB9AE

I'm looking to acquire a bench belt grinder that I can use multiple attachments similar to the one Mr. Gossman uses in his video. Any suggestions or links?

Thanks again. Keep the advice coming :)
