So, some may have seen the post with the 15 blade blanks I had cut out and the primary bevel done on. Well they are back from HT and I'm starting to work on them. At first I started hoping back ad forth between this knife and that knife and finally decided to work on one to completion. I made some good progress hand sanding the bevel and flat to 320 today. I'll be vinegar/mustard etching the blade then bluing it. This is a "working" knife for a guy in my shop, so I'm not too bent out of shape trying to get it to a mirror or flawless matte consistency.

The handle needs much work yet but until I get some of my amazon deals I'll be waiting a bit. I'ts Brazilian cherry that I picked up from woodcraft. I think I'll finish it up to 500 grit and then put some BLO or Minwax hardner on it. I need to sand away the area for the lanyard hole too. Constructive comments welcome of course.

First one's "complete". I need to get an actual working edge on it but I'm pretty stoked on how it came out. Larry Beverly and Tom Goodpasture helped me out a ton and even through my limited interaction I can't say enough about them.

Not a bad looking knife. From a design standpoint though I don't like that hump on the spine. I personally if you were going to put a thumb ramp in there I would've just had the spine continue off the ramp down to the tip. Other than that I think it came out great for a first.

I'm really digging the design. Overall I think it came out great. IMNO I think you should have knocked off the leading edge of the handle and dealt with the thumb ramp like Fletch said. Even now I think it would look better with the front of the ramp brought to the spine and then curved up to the rear.

I love the bluing. How exactly did you get that finish? I'd like to try it.

Do you mean rounding over the front edge of the handle where it meets the blade? It might be hard to tell from the shot but it is tapered about a 1/16" from the overall thickness. On the next I'll take more off.

As far as the finish, I hand sanded to 400, then submerged it in tip down in a hot vinegar/salt bath for around 20-30 minutes 3 times with buffing it with steel wool in between. I blued it using SuperBlue, 2 or 3 applications after the light etch. The pattern that shows is what I assume to be a byproduct of the HT and quench.
