1st knife

Knife look's real good for your first, as you aquire tools and skills, you will only get better.

Great job. Love the handle. Nice and rounded. Usually takes guys a while to learn that. Sweet!

thanks for the input. ill have two more soon just need to put on handle and guard. ill some them when closer to being done

nice knife but you really should have taken the time top get those nasty scratches out near the tip. Looks like laziness to me. No offense intended but that really is what it looks like.

Might take a little more than just a buff job, possibly block sanding, they look a little deep. Trying to buff them out will give you all sorts of ripples. I think the time to get them out was before the handle and guard were in the way. Instead of trying to get them completely out, block sand parallel to the scratches down to a 400 or 600 grit which will give you a satin finish. It is a good first effort. Take what you learned making this one and make the next one right now while this one is still fresh in your mind. if every one gets better than the last and you are open to learning from your experiences you will be making really phenominal stuff sooner than you think. BTW fill in the town in your profile, there may be someone nearby who might just feel like letting you drop in for a lesson, you never know . . .

I have one that looks just like that!
I made it about 15 years ago and it took me almost five years to get it back.
I was one of my first knives and I hated the fact that I sold it... Now it sits on a wall in my shop along with a big Bowie I made first.

The overall look is clean and a little work can bring it up to where you want it to be.

Take your time, don't rush. Enjoy what your doing and be your own judge.

He's awake!!! he's awake!!!! :D

One way to help eliminate the scratches before you move another grit is to color the blade with either dykem or use a sharpie marker like I do. Helps to ensure that the bigger grit scratches are gone before you move on to the next. Use as much light as you can when final sanding and also an elcheapo magnifying lens thingy will help out a lot too.

You've spent a lot of time making a knife, why rush the last few hours finishing it when that's probably what people will notice first??

I personally really enjoy hand finishing my blades. I love how the finish isn't there then all of a sudden it just POPS out at you.

Still a great job on a first knife.
