Hey all new member here. I've recently started to throw around the idea of carrying fixed blade. My usual edc is a spyderco tenacious. Great value for the money Imo. Also have a zt 0350 but it was just too dang heavy for my liking so I've been reading reviews of esee products and pulled the trigger on the candiru. My initial impression is its very small. Like child's play thing small. But I'm going to give it a couple weeks and see if I warm up to it. I went back and forth between it and the izula and I hope I don't regret my decision. I guess worst case I could probably find someone to trade with? Anyways thanks for all the helpful info looking forward to perusing the site more. P.s. looks like I can't post a pic. Do I have to have a payed membership for that?

Oops looks like I posted in the wrong section. There are so many on the tapa talk app. Feel free to move this I apologize

ill trade with you if you dont like it. you need to use a photo sharing website (photobucket) to post pictures. There is a thread about it. It is quite simple once you sign up. I adore my izula II. But I think the candiru would be a great edc. Consider buying a leather pocket sheath for pocket carry. certain websites sell them or I am sure a member on here will get you fixed up for an affordable price.

Brandon, I'm not sure you'll be interested on shelling more bucks on a knife you already have doubts about, but...

For mine, I went ahead and bought the Esee micarta scales for the Candiru. It is still pretty much a 3 finger knife, but it has changed the ergo tremendously, and for the better. I also went for an Azwele kydex sheath. That too brought the experience to a whole new level.

Now that I think about it... it ended damn expensive for such a little knife. :D

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your Candiru.

If you're still not sure just give it some time. I own quite a few ESEE knives and like them all, but the Candiru is kinda special because it is the smallest. You can conceal it practically anywhere and it's a tough little slicer for its size. Makes a great backup knife. More than likely you'll add another ESEE or two to your stable over time and will want to keep the Candiru. For a good set I recommend at least a Candiru, an Izula 2, and an ESEE-4. That gives you a good range.

And I agree with Turbo about the micarta scales for the Candiru. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to spend more money on the Candiru but adding the scales totally changed the ergonomics for the better. For <$20 it's a good mod.

Cool yeah I was going to buy the scales when I have some more spending money glad to know it's worth it.

Just to give you some more insight:

Izzie 1 vs Candiru

I don't have an Izzie II, but their handle are, IIRC, 7/16" longer than the original Izula.

LOL!

"Buy both"

You'll feel right at home on BladeForums.

But seriously, if I had to do it again, I would go with the IzzieII rather than the IzzieI. They come from factory with the scales, and they seem to be practically a 4 finger grip.

Haha well considering the ol lady almost shot me when she found out I spent $50 on a "tiny piece of metal" that won't happen soon. I'll try it out for the week and if I find myself under knifed at work I'll see about trading it.

I'd not really considered ever carrying a fixed blade for daily carry, but if I did, that'd definitely be the one to do it. Wow, that's tiny. But like addylo says, ESEE makes a top notch product and I'd carry that thing with no worries that it'd measure up for EDC tasks.

Meet the family.

I don't own a 3 yet but the HEST is about the same size. It was one of my impulse buys.

Another question I really like how the candiru sheath hangs below the belt because here in ca it's unsafe to conceal carry a 5 inch fixed blade but we can open carry a machete :banghead: do they have a kind of drop sheath for the izzies?

My collection thus far. Makes sense I feel it's small compared to those folders

Wow, and to me, the 0350 (I have one, and another one on the way thanks to an awesome forum member) is already a smallish knife. Well, it's not small, it's just...stubby is maybe the right word.

Oh, almost forgot, welcome to the Board. I think you're going to enjoy your time here. I've spent quite a lot of money since I joined in steel. LOL

Just do what I do, get 'em sent to the mailroom at your work!

@Turbo. Thanks for posting these nice side by side pics. I have been wanting the candiru, but now thinking the Izzie II is more fitting for me. Love that ffg.

Just a word of caution, we seem to have taken quite the same path for starting...

(sorry for the less-than-stellar pix).

There are a metric ton of awesome sheath makers on the forum that will make whatever you want, in the material you want, and on the style you need. Just hang around, you'll see plenty of sheathing solutions you didn't even thought of (and that you'll need).

If, on the other hand, you want a leather sheath readily available and not customized, nor necessarily made for the Izzie, or Candiru, you can always look at the Knivesshipfree website under "sheaths". That's where I got mine, and their service is awesome. I'm pretty sure there are aplenty others, but I just speak of what I know.
