New guy here. I'm a member on knifeforums, ar15.com, M4carbine.net, HKPro, and weaponevolution and somehow never got around to this forum. Just signed up .
I am already drooling over pics and tons of info here. I edc a Benchmade 710 and an HAK and have been wanting something new to swap back and forth with the 710 and am going nuts making a decision. I've been told to look at a BM Kulgera, Barrage (or mini), Al Mar Sere 2000, BM 14205 and I'm also interested in Spydercos and a few others. I like sturdy knives that hold an edge but are easy enough to strop. I'm into the axis lock and frame locks, not sure about choosing a liner lock although the sere 2000 has one.
What say you guys?

Welcome to BladeForums, and if you like sturdy knives check out the Spyderco Manix 2 it's a great heavy duty folder.

Welcome to BFC!

You might take a look at emerson knives as well...super solid knives if you dont mind linerlocks:D

Welcome, nice edc- Lately I've been liking the Kersaw Spec bump for EDC- just a thought for a nice blade at a great price.

hey new york a big welcome. check out the spec elite in vg10 by sog. this knife can be opened as easiley left handed as right handed. the vg10 is tuff & takes a super edge.

There are some great production linerlocks out there. I wouldn't rule those out.

ZT 0350 for example. Spyderco Military as well.

Welcome aboard. And if you have to have an axis type lock, check out the Spyderco Manix 2.

Welcome!!

If your partial to linerlocks then get a ZT 0200 through Kershawguy here on the forum. They are an incredibly strong linerlock.

I've gone to EDc carry of a ZT 0300 myself.

I'd definitely check out a SPCO CBB lock, I'm an axis guy myself, I carry a 710 as well, after seeing the CBB lock, I'm interested in the knives that have them. Welcome aboard, whatever you do DO NOT stop by the knifemakers for sale area... you're body will dehydrate from excessive drooling.

Is the Manix 2 with the G-10 and 154cm a good choice or would it be a better choice to go with the S90v model for much more money. The Military looks nice. Down to one of these 2 Spydercos, the Al Mar and the BM14205

They're different animals IMO.

The 154cm is a hollow grind. The s30v is a full flat grind. Depending on how sturdy of a blade you need and what application you have for the knife, you'll have to decide on your own. Full flats generally cut a lot better than hollow grinds. Hollow grinds will have a stronger blade because less stock is removed when the blades are ground.

As far as steel is concerned, s30v is 'considered' higher end, but 154cm is no slouch either. There are still custom knife makers that utilize 154cm. I don't think you have to worry about which steel to get other than ease of sharpening. s30v will be harder to sharpen. More importantly is what grind meets your specific application.
