First set of knives going out the door for HT @ Peter's today. My wife, who is a professional photographer, snapped a few pics.

Well, looks like you got pictures covered when you get them finished!!!! Those look good, hopefully you will update this thread when you get a few finished :)

Of course I was just teasing Shannon. Like Mike said, properly displaying your knives is essential and you are set in that department.

Oh, I knew you were, I was joking, too. Thanks for the compliment. Seems like it has taken forever just to get the knives to this point, but I've enjoyed each step. Thankfully, I have time to research bladeforums.com and watch youtube videos at my day job. Then I can apply some of that when I get time to work on these at night. Thanks again.

Those grinds are looking good! Freehand?

Thanks! I wish I could say they were all freehand. A couple of them are... the ones with the higher grinds. I can tell that is going to take a lot of practice at the grinder. I ended up making a jig out of a 2x4... that at least helped me keep the lines straight. I saw a couple of jigs on youtube that I may try to make. I've ordered some extra steel so I can keep practicing at freehand grinding, though.

Good looking batch! Get 'em back from heat treat and that's when the real fun starts!

Thanks for sharing.

Looks very good, and these knives are made of …?

Thanks, they're 1095. 1/4" thick stuff, but figured that would give me room for error on my first set of knives. I picked up some 1/8" & 3/16" steel from Aldo's at the Blade Show over the weekend. Anxious to see how much different that will be.

Thanks! I've been going at this whole process in steps... research something, practice, more research, more practice. I was excited yet a bit nervous about sending the blades off. I spoke with Brad @ Peter's before I sent the blades out the door just to make sure I had a few things in order. I'm sure he'll get a good laugh when he sees them :p I've got handle material with liners sitting on a bench at home waiting for epoxy. Think I may give that a shot this weekend.

nice one, looks great, how come all the same shape/style though????

Thanks for the feedback! Honestly, I was thinking that with my first set of knives it would be easier to practice grinding if I was trying to achieve the same bevel on each knife. I made several mistakes along the way, and I'm thankful for that because I knew I was learning something and I was able to modify my process for the next knife until I felt like I had a method I could reproduce. There were several steps that I had out of order, like drilling the tang towards the end and notching the edge at the ricasso before cleaning up my plunge lines... those things probably should have been obvious to me, but I screwed up, and that's okay. I still have several more steps to screw up, and I'm looking forward to those as well  !
