--1st Spyderco Ever! PM2 bought online, strange configuration.. HELP!--

I don't trust ebay at all for knives. Too many people here on BF have been scammed, not to mention that Spydercos are often faked.

The only way to tell if a Spyderco is genuine is to send it to Spyderco. This applies to good fakes, not bad obvious ones. However, you might be in a dilemma if the blades have been swapped out. I don't know if they'll take the time to tell you if the parts are genuine Spyderco or if they will just say "we never made such a configuration". From my experience, they don't take a lot of time to "talk knives". When I asked them how they could tell a PM2 I sent to them was fake, their response was essentially, "because we just can".

If you could post your own close-up pics, that would help us better help you. But, as said above, send it to Spyderco, and they'll tell you for sure - they have very good customer service.

And, also as stated, it's generally a bad idea to trust people selling PM2's (possibly the most popular Spyderco model ever) on FleaBay. Same thing goes for the high end G-Shocks - there are probably more fakes than real ones! Just pay the extra few bucks and buy from a TRUSTED Authorized Dealer! Seriously.

Might be a FrankenPara2, but Paramilitaries are notoriously popular for counterfeiters.

Yes. FrankenPara is what I was going to say. Looks like someone bought a sprint run S35VN with brown scales and swapped them for the standard black scales.

Most faked blade out there! I personally wouldn't do it. Especially with a knife that is a throw together. Price is pretty high also.
Go with an authorized dealer.

Looks legit to me. The jimping on the back of the blade is angled back and the cut out around the lock is smooth. However, as said above, ebay is the worst place to buy a PM2. You will never really know as some of the really good fakes are starting to catch up to the subtle differences the real ones have (like I mentioned above).

I agree. It does look legit. Screws and jimping are right. G10 looks correct. And also agree about eBay. They will back you if you get a counterfeit. But it can be a headache

Just giving words of caution going forward as an experienced ebayer myself (over 500 positive reviews) I wouldn't have dealt with an ebayer that has 12-rating. Yes, they might be all positive, but nothing in the last year. I mean, if it was a $10 purchase I might take the chance, but not on a potential $100 knife.

Hi everyone! Long time lurker and finally signed up! I've been wanting a Spyderco Paramilitary2 for a while now and have been very interested in the s35vn blade but was not a fan of the brown grip color. I found an interesting combo on EBay with the s35vn blade swapped onto a black grip. The seller has had good communication with me and I feel he has been honest but I'm still worried about it being put together from copies.. What do you think? Thanks in advance!

Well he hasn't sold many items in the past, if what he was selling were fakes than they were good ones because it looks like he hasn't had beef with any of his buyers.

If it turns out to be a clone you'll have eBay on your side as the seller didn't specify it was a fake (yes there are people on eBay openly selling fake Spydercos but they let buyers know it's a chinese copy)

Risk of a fake isn't worth saving a few bucks. I just bought a brand new one from blade hq. No worries about it being a fake. I'd much rather have a blade that I can count on than save...price of fast food meal, T-shirt, whatever the case may be.

Looks good to me.
But like was already mentioned, I would probably not buy from someone who has a really low seller rating.....

Unless I really wanted the knife.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'll get some better photos posted (if you think that would help). I've contacted Spyderco but I would have to mail it in. Buying through EBay is certainly not worth the risk but I wasn't able to find a black G10 S30v at a regular retailer. What are some reputable sites other than bladehq and knife center that you'd recommend?

Other good shops, include Cutlery Shoppe, Knifeworks, National Knives, New Graham, and others not mentioned.

Go here, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1089879-Paid-Dealer-Members-List- this is the list of forum sponsor shops. I'm glad I'm not a new guy anymore, my first Spydie was from the big river store itself, not one of the wonky sellers thank the Lord. After that I only bought from forum sponsors and I've never had to think if I had got something fake. Stick with the forum list and you'll be "Golden" if you catch my drift;)
