Hi everyone,

I am new to knives and I am new to Spyderco's. I am looking at getting my first one for EDC. Any suggestions? I know I don't want a serrated blade but that is all.

It's your decision...there is hardly a bad choice as every choice is personal

Go look for one you like the looks, lock and materials.

I would say start with the regular Delica 4 that has the saber grind. Thats about as good as it gets for EDC, in my opinion.

There are many others that would serve you well (Endura, Stretch II among them), but I'd say Delica.

Knowing your budget would be helpful in making a recommendation. Also, how long a blade do you want? Under 3", 3-3 1/2", 3 1/2-4"?

If you like em big, Manix2 or Military. If more Edc size, caly3 or one of the Sage models. Any way you go, your first will not be your last!!

The knife I have consistently carried for many years is my Delica.

Of course a lot of it depends on your lifestyle. When I worked "in the field" I carried an Endura every day. But I am in an office now. And sometimes a LARGE knife can be too much.

To me the Delica is a great compromise. Plenty of blade for functional tasks, but not so "scary" for the sheeple of the world. :) And its available with a full flat grind now. I think I may be asking for one of the new models for my B day. I too would prefer a "plain blade" and my current Delica (purchased many years ago) was a combo edge.

I like buying USA products. What models are made in the USA besides the Manix2 and Native?

blade length should be 3 to 3.5

budget $50 to $150.

I would also like a flat grind

Para2 is your knife. And it is the great knife. I never was a fan of para, but I love para2.
Made in Golden, Co. 3.5" full flat grind S30V blade, compression lock, great ergos, tip up or down. And all of these for around $100.
Enjoy your knife.

Carried a Delica for years. Just started carry a Para2:thumbup:. I have a Medium size hand Para 2 fits perfectly. With it's new features, its the best. Should fit your budget and blade length:D.

My three favorite spydercos are probably the Military, Sage1 and Delica.

You may find the Military a little large at first but one day in your pocket and you'll be a believer.

The Sage1 is just fabulous in every way and an amazing EDC knife with the wire clip.

If you're on a budget, you can't go wrong with the Delica. It's slim, light, and will do everything you need a knife to do.

There are lot's of other great EDC spyderco's out there like the Sage2, Caly3, Manix, Dragonfly, Paramilitary, etc. Those three just happen to be my favorites.

Paramilitary 2 hands down. As others stated, it seems to fit your needs and budget 100%. (in fact, it sounds like you are actually describing a Para2;)) Only problems are

1) If you will find one right now (still on backorder @ lots of dealers)

2) you are close to the top. Not THAT much "better" Spydies left (material, ergos, design) to get after that... It would be easier to "start" with an Endura, maybe even the ordinary black FRN Flat Saber Grind, and work your way up to the higher end models from there :D (My Spydie addiction started with a Delica, and look where I ended up 4 years later)....

ah, what the heck, get yourself a Para2 anyway! It is what you want. Why settle with less?

Even if it was your first and last folding EDC knife, you would probably be set for life.
