That's got to be an old one - a friend has one that has a hoof cleaning tool along with a few other goodies with stag scales from the era of the war between the states.. that's cool too - so no, the Swiss were not the first! . Sorry Mr. Wenger!

Yes and No,
That's a picture of the "first Victorinox" model.
Actually there were some SAK's imported from a german knifemaker before that, which look somewhat similar.
I do have pictures but no scanner....

Neither:
First was the "german supplier", then Victorinox created its company to overcome supply trouble during WWI, later on, Wenger joined this business.
Today they split shipment to the swiss army, which uses a model rarely seen (alu shell).
Beside that, they are fully indpendent and quite competitive.
