1st ZT... 801 or 550

0550 is excellent. Just a tough workhorse of a knife. It doesn't have to look pretty, it just gets the job done. Phosphor bronze action is smooth.

0801 is one of the best values out there. Full Ti slabs. Cleaner lines. Best flipping action I've ever felt. Definitely sexier.

In the end, it's your call. Like others have said, either one will be great!

If you are at all interested in a 0550, get one now as they've been discontinued.

I dislike assisted openers and flippers and ball bearings, so the 0550 is my favorite knife in the ZT lineup. It's simple, ridiculously strong, and built to perfection. S35Vn is great steel, phosphor bronze washers are ideal, and the framelock even has a steel insert for longevity. Some people complain about the 0550 being difficult to open, but I've never had a problem unless my other fingers were pinching the frame lock, holding the detent into the blade.

If you buy the 0550 at closeout prices, you'll probably be able to get your money back if you dislike it and want to sell it in a few months after the supply has dried up.

I'll never sell my 0550, it's replaced the Spyderco Military as my ideal utility folder.
