1x AA Flashlights

Make that an M3T or better =D or even a Mag 85 (3D mag packed with 9AAs and a welch allyn 1185 bulb)

Vincent, that's true, that's why I carry 2 lights

LEDs are starting to rival, and in some cases, exceed incandecent bulbs.
The true beauty of the LED is that bulb failure is not too much of a concern. True, they might crap out on you, but old style bulbs will crap out, usually at a most inconvenient time.

I sold my last Arc AA to get the cash for a Fenix, and I'm very happy with the new single AA luxeon torch. The Fenix has nice fit and finish and a real nice white beam, too. A winner in my book!

I recently received the Fenix L1P lights that I ordered. They are outstanding.
The brightness is amazing for a single AA light and the beam pattern is perfect - a very white beam with a bright centre spot, with excellent broad surrounding spill.
It has replaced my Inova X5T as my uniform belt-pouch carry.

The Benchmade small soft knife pouch is a perfect fit for the Fenix. It is better than the pouch that comes with the Fenix as, when you open the flap the whole of the tailcap is exposed, so it is easier to extract the light from the pouch.
I'll try to get a pic up...here you go..

How would you compare the Fenix L1P and Nuwai Q3? Do you guys think 45 lumen is bright enough for blinding a BG at night?

They are both great, but I prefer the smoother lines and AA powering of the Fenix.

Oh..and the QIII pocket clip is terrible.

I wouldn't rely on either of them to blind somebody though.

I just got an L1P yesterday and am very impressed with it compared to the Nuwai QIII, smaller, whiter light and brighter. Considering that this light runs on half the power it is a beauty.

You should be able to give yourself a slight advantage over a night adapted villian at close range but it's no M6.

Can I find an Xnova 8 and/or a Fenix L1 out and about at a regular store? i.e. Home Depot, Ace hardware etc.

Thank guys, the info and links are very helpful. I will go ahead and get a L1P.

I just ordered a couple Fenix L1Ps this morning. I can't wait to see how they work and from everyone's opinion here, I won't be disappointed.

Got my Fenix today. Very fast shipping from Mr. Chow. Put in a battery and went outside to play in the dark. Very impressive throw and brightness!

OK what might be (IMHO) almost as good as the fabulous Fenix L1 v2.5, but at 1/2 to 1/3 the price?

I have an infatuation for single celled lights and top of my list goes the AA battery. So to find a single AA battery 0.5watt flashlight that has good form factor and remains small - well..... is a FIND.

Tucked in on their 1/2watt page is this AdvancedMart model # LED-005S - it's shown in shiney silver on that page - but I noticed there is a choice of black too. Normally I prefer not to get black flashlights - but the shiney silver ws a bit too "gaudy" for my tastes -
so black it was - shown here with its supplied pouch -

AdvancedMart model # LED-005S.

This is a nice one, thanks for a good review.

Here's a pic of my old UZI 3 LED 1AA, I added a Turks Head knot to prevent the tail cap from falling when loosened out to turn off.

Cool! I ended up having to make a homemade elastic retainer using some 1/2" elastic to use with the loose tailcap of the Xnova 8 New version..

That's the thing on the Xnova 8LED 1AA light in the pic in the opening post.

here's a better pic -

There's a lot more about it starting on page 3 in this thread - 8LED 1AA "Xnova" New

I've also now done a direct side-by-side comparison between the 0.5w 1AA - AdvancedMart LED-005S and the Xnova 8 new in post #16 of the thread.

is there a problem with the tail caps falling off when ya turn it off??

The 2 blue Xnova 8 new that I got had very loose fitting tailcaps (probably using an O-ring that's too thin). I like to turn the tailcap so that it still can be pressed for momentary on. This is about 1/8 turn away from fully on.

With the tailcaps being so loose there is a real danger of the light turning fully on accidentally - or as reported by others the tailcap actually working off when carrying in the pocket.

I have another in (beautiful) shiney silvery-black (like hematite) that is a bit better and I think all the difference is just a thicker better O-ring - but even so I still prefer to use my homemade elastic retaining band on it.

I definitely would not recommend attaching the light to a keyring or anything other thing for this reason alone.

However someone over at CPF came up with the idea of screwing the tailcap in real tight and using the screw action of the head to turn the light on and off...... I thought that was a brilliant idea.

Has anyone posted comparison photos of the Fenix L1P vs the Longbow Micra and TnC AA 350 mA?
