i need to find cheapest prices on belts and shipping. i would love to find them locally here. i saw pops has it. not bad on price in my opinion. same with shipping.

my local Ace hardware has 1x30 belts... but durn it, i just bought a 1x42!

there is a true value in town along with a home depot knockoff. i dont know if they have 1x30 but im sure they dont have any fine grits. im wanting from 60 to 600 and possibly even higher. the backing material needs to outlast the grit. i dont want the cheap belts. id rather buy the belts than to hand sand the knife after 60 grit since thats what came with my grinder.

If you buy from a "local" source, make sure you are buying butt-spliced belts and not lap splice. Lap splice will "bump" every time they come around and are a PITA.

pimpin squee, you post like it's going out of style. I hope you don't burn out, because this is a great site. There are many individuals with more knowledge about knife making than I'll ever aquire.

:)

I use the Micron belt to polish the edge, and the 500 and 1200 grit A/O grinding belts to sharpen the convex edge on blades. I also have the leather belt to strop my blades. If you are doing heavier material removal you would need to get lower grit belt. I did not see in any of your post what kind of work you are doing with the 1"x30" belts so I can't address exactly what you need...

I'm going to hitch a ride on this thread. I'm getting ready to purchase a 1x30 for both bevel grinding and sharpening. It'll be a good while before I can purchase a 2x72 so I figure the 1x30 will get me by just fine, especially since I mostly make smaller knives.

Thanks for all the info.

Charles

thanks guys. should i go with the everlast or the white non-loading belts? i like how they have buy 12 get 12 free.

Jacob,

I've only used the everlast, because that is the only type that has the size I'm using. They certainly don't load up with metal.

im going to get some since they have that buy 12 get 12 free deal. makes it the best deal i have found on belts.

Home Depot carries Norton 1x30 belts. I have picked up a few for my small Harbor Freight. Now though it just sit's there starring at my new KMG!
