I have 2x72 Beaumont grinder, and it is great, and I have a cheapo 1x42 that is surprising good for certain task also, but lacks the solid, smooth, and powerful operation of the Beaumont. Of course if you have a 2x72... But the deal in my case is there is no cheap, or local supply for belts in my part of Canada. everything needs to be ordered and with high postage, it gets really expensive. No alternative for knife making, but I am not going to burn the belts up sharpening bits for my lathe or taking the abuse out of a neighbour's kitchen knife for free.

Where I am lucky is that there are readily available, high quality metal cutting 1x42 belts. I am thinking of making a sidekick 1x42 grinder to go with my 2x72 beaumount. I don't think it is as simple as changing wheels, I think the shortest belt on my 2x72 is a 60 incher.

Anyone have any recommended sites, plans, or photos for 1x42 high quality grinders. USKNIFEMAKERS and Burr King, have the wheels.

Get some one inch contact wheels(and platen-if necessary) made for the Beaumont. Sunray will make you whatever you want
It should track the one inch belts.
A&J ( customsandingbelts com) will make up your belts.
I'm doing some work on a 3/4 by 80( old sears bandsaw using belts).
Matter of fact my 1.5 by 60 x 8"wheel grinder is almost finished. Kinky eh ? ;)
