I'm looking for an edc that's about 2.5", preferably wood scales/handle with a negative blade angle. For legal reasons, the blade can't be larger than 2.5". For example, I like the design and power of the Spyderco Persistence but would like something a bit lighter with a slightly smaller blade. I would be using this mostly for lunch, but sometimes to cut string, packages open, sports tape off, etc. Preferably a lockback or framelock if a folder. Folder or fixed, but has to be something I can drop in the pocket and forget about. If a fixed blade, might mount on belt, but then again, don't want to display if shirt is tucked in, which is a lot of the time. Skeptical that a fixed blade can be comfortable in a pocket. Looked at the Bark River PSK for example, but handle seems short? and blade angle isn't all that I've hoped for. Forlorn knife user....

I'm no expert, but what I mean is a knife where the blade angles down in relation to the handle. See the Spyderco Persistence or Barong.

I should also mention that I like the shape if not the size of the PSK handle.

Ah ok, trust me I'm no expert either that's why I didn't know the term. :D I left you a link on your visitor messages area in your profile.

I have never heard of it either. I had to look it up and found out it was in a bunch of our forums here. Never heard the term used before. Meh....

How's about a little Spyderco Balance for something a little different? It's a shade under 2" though, and is available in all stainless or carbon fibre--both are kind of pricey, imo.

Otherwise, I highly recommend the Buck 55... very classy, capable and affordable

Thanks Timberweasel, but I don't want to spend a lot of money for a knife that is that little. Something like that would be fairly pathetic for attacking a pork chop. The handle would be annoyingly small.

Looked at the Buck, but a nail knick won't do. I want a one handed opener, preferably without the opening assist or flipper.

I love my PSK, I have a belt sheath and the pocket sheath, both leather. Sure, the handle is small, but the knife is small. I can get 3.5 fingers on the handle, but the knife is so small, that it's not an issue really. I can make a fist and all fingers are holding the knife, but it's just not made for real hard use. I can carve on wood, if that matters, and the edge retention is great, mine is the 154CM.
The short overall length is great for pocket carry, if it were longer, it would not be so comfy. For the tasks your listing, I don't see why it wouldn't handle any of them. You would need a longer and fatter handle to really do some powerful hard use anyway, ala Bark River IMP. Then it's not as good for pocket carry.
Blind Horse Knives small Tiger Knapp is also a 2.5" long blade, and has a longer handle. I own one and, it's a good knife, but without handle scales you just can't press hard. IMO, I'd rather have the shorter length handle, with the scales, thus the PSK.

How about a "Condor Windfang"

•Blade Length: 2 1/8"
•Overall Length: 5 5/16"
•Blade Thickness: 1/8"
•Finish: Epoxy Black Powder Coating
•Weight: 0.35lbs

I get the feeling you don't want to spend much money.... but that can vary for everyone. So, I will give you Four different affordable options. Good luck!

MTech Pocket Knife - Pakkawood handle (Blade / cutting surface is going to be under 3" but not sure if it is just over 2.5" or not. For only $12, it may be worth checking out. (I know these are cheap knives, but the company does a great job knocking off more expensive knives. They make a relatively well finished product for the money that feels good in hand. Also, for this price, you won't care if you tear the knife up or even lose it down the road. Also, easy to sharpen. Check it out:

These don't all meet every one of your criteria, but they meet the blade length restriction and some of the other requirements: Spyderco Cat, A.G. Russell Spire, Nemesis Imp, the small KaBar Dozier, Boker Plus Titanium Blues Button Lock, Spyderco Kopa, Klotzle Gent's Folder, Sakai Gent's folder, Skalja Savik, Buck Alpha Dorado, Fallkniven U2.

Thanks, foxx, that's really helpful. I am considering the psk for sure. What sheaths do you have?

Thanks for the suggestions, Lemonte but I'm willing to go a bit more expensive. I looked at your suggestions and the problems were: half of them, no one handed opening, also, going for more traditional/classic look, the other half weren't very appealing in that sense.

Thanks for the other suggestions, will definitely look them up.

The PSK in 154CM comes with a Pocket Sheath...like this..http://www.the-knife-connection.com/br-psk154cm-bcm.html

I ordered one for their Mikro Canadian, it doesn't fit perfect, but well enough to look like they could have came together..http://www.crystalfallstradingcompa...d=398&osCsid=6e1d3c9da87992bb403ca65ee140542d

This could work, you would have to call and see if they could see how the PSK fits first hand...http://www.crystalfallstradingcompa...=2845&osCsid=6e1d3c9da87992bb403ca65ee140542d

OR this one?..http://www.crystalfallstradingcompa...=2191&osCsid=6e1d3c9da87992bb403ca65ee140542d

Cold Steel Tuff Lite once it is available, will only be about $25-30

A folder is much better for in and out utility use on a regular basis than a fixed blade that isn't worn outside of clothing. Takes more care and time to try to put it away one handed when you have a sheath in your waistband, pocket, dangling under your shirt, etc.

Thanks foxx. How bulky is the pocono versus the bushcraft f? I usually wear jeans, so my pockets arent that roomy. Also, realized that the finger groove on the handle is pretty wide and that there is a bump behind the groove. My right hand is just under 3.5 inches wide. How will the handle feel, I wonder?

Thanks for the tip, Ordnance. Unfortunately, most folders that are about at 2.5 inches don't really appeal to me, although I may go with one of the ones listed in this thread. The spyderco kopa seems pretty good, for example.

With my PSK in the Pocono sheath, laying on a table, I'm measuring just over 1/2" thick, about 3" at it's widest, and 5 5/8" tall (with PSK). I don't have the bushcraft "f" sheath, so I don't know.
My hand is also 3.5" wide, and I like the handle. Thing is, everybody is different, and I never planned on the PSK being a "har use" knife. Like I said, 3.5 fingers fit on the handle, but I don't think that's where it's fault is. If anything, hard use would show discomfort due to the lack of thickness in the handle scales. My PSK measures about 3/8" thick, they are flat scales. Again, this knife has a thin edge, I don't use it very hard. Even if the edge was more robust, it's just not that kind of knife.
Here's an old pic of mine, the PSK is there as well as other knives. Maybe you can get a better idea of it's size? All the other knives have "full sized" handles. Top right knife has a 4" blade and 3 3/4" long handle. The PSK has just under 2 1/4" blade and a 3" handle. The Bumble Bee or the IMP are other Barkies you should look at. THe IMP is the bottom knife, 2.5" blade full sized handle. Top knife(Highland Special) has the 4" blade, 3 3/4" handle.
