I'm just sayin. Lucky for me wholesale tool is open tomorrow till lunchtime. Shame on me for using the lathe powered up instead of hand spinning the chuck.

I will get my folder done sooner or later!

Brother I feel your pain, you would think a tap would be easy to do in titanium:) I had to order a new 2-56 tap from USA knifemakers the other day taping on the drill press by hand:( so after 30 min of cussing I got it out and ordered 3 more so I would have some on hand for the next time I break one:) there will be a next time

YEA YEA THREAD FORMING TAPS I KNOW....:barf::barf:

Every time I go in there to get em they never have em in stock. I just need to tell em to order em for me. I have been meaning to, promise...:p

No, no, no, but 0-80 taps are fragile! :)

I have found 2-56 downright sturdy compared to 0-80

I have some USA made 0-80's that I special ordered at an industrial supplier because they were out of stock of the east-European imports.

$ 25 EACH
I'm afraid to use those..

It makes the price of an auto tapper downright reasonable.

$10 a tap at Enco when they go on sale, and there's Always a free shipping deal floating around.

PFSJUN Is the code for June. $25 min. order

WT has the USA made stuff for $6 to $7 apiece. forming or cutting, they are pretty much the same price.

$25 apiece? I would be afraid too. Know what? I might as well get some 0-80 taps and bits when I place my order. I like the local pickup, beats having to pay for shipping.

Feeding the local economy is a big plus in my book.

Unfortunately, I always seem to live nowhere near anything...

$7 is a smoking deal.

If your hole is thru the piece and want to use a cutting tap try tapping with a spiral point tap. "CNC Tap" (Not a Spiral flute Tap) It pushes the chip thru the hole and you don't have to break the chip every half a turn.
Using Tapmatic cutting fluid will help out ALLOT.
PS; I once broke a bunch of small taps all at once...
I dropped the tray of taps on the floor.:o

figures the smallest they have is 4-40 so technically I had to get a 2-56- and 0-80 import. but I got up to 8-32 in American. I do get all my drill bits American. I do not mind paying $1 for a #50 bit. honestly what's a dollar these days unless you are buying 83 of em at once.

I use rapid tap, I have it loaded in a goldenrod (made in usa too) pump oiler with flexy stem. Dropping a bunch of anything on the floor and having em all break at once sucks.

Get a Tapmatic (there are usually some on ebay), you'll never break a tap again. ;)

It's on my list of things to get, I am busy bidding on a 3 phase C face motor with gear reduction to repower my bandsaw.
