2, 7, 10, or 16?

Ok, so I am shopping again ('you can't eat just one', if I may reference another thread in this subforum) and I found a good deal on a 14, but I need over $99 for free shipping and thus I want to add another Becker to the order, all of the ones I don't have are around the same price, give or take $10, so I'm wondering what's the most useful of the bunch? I have a 5, 9, and 15 already, so was thinking the 10 or 16, since I already have a 2-sized fixed blade and the 7's pretty close in size to the 5 I already have.

I'm really just looking for one that I will have opportunity to use, without being redundant on the Beckers I already have. I like to use every knife I own, and having a Becker sitting unused because I have another Becker stealing all its work is kinda a worst-case scenario. I'm looking to round out my collection without getting too redundant.

What say you all?

I say yes.

dammit, I knew the first response I'd get would be that. I can't afford all at once, since I just bought a new backpack and flashlight I am lower on cash that I'd like.

If all things go well, though...

I love the bk2, I have 2 of em now and plan on buying a third eventually once I get the rest I want first. For it's size it's a great chopper, it's great at batoning, and with a convex edge it'll carve and do finer tasks relatively well for a large knife. Not to mention it's practically bomb proof. I had a 7 and it's a great knife as well, but had to sell it awhile back, but I replaced it with a 9 and don't really see a need for it between the bk2 and 9 other than I just want another. Now if you want something specifically for finer tasks then go with the 16, that's the next on my list.

Since you already have a 9, you must get a 16, it's an unwritten rule !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once you pair any small or tweener Becker with either a 2, 4, 5, or 9, you've so thoroughly covered your bases that "redundant" should be stricken from your vocabulary when talking about knives from then on.

Did you watch Breaking Bad? Do you remember Mike's speech about "half-measures"? Well, that's how I feel about the 7 and 10 (I'm gonna get death threats, aren't I?). If you needed a knife for any specific purpose or trip and you had all the Beckers in front of you, I just don't know when you would select the 7 or 10 UNLESS you were in some kind of tournament where you wanted a large blade but the 9 had been disqualified for being too awesome.

I don't own a 2, but it is an awesome knife that eats other knives. There are few knives to rival it at what it does. I do own a 16. Like the 7 and the 10, the 16 is a generalist. It does everything well. Unlike the 7 and 10, it's a better-sized knife and goes on your belt no problem.

Again, nothing against the 7 and 10. I hope to own both someday, but you will find a lot more love on this subforum for the 2 and the 16.

FYI, all the cool kids crush the tip off their 16s when new. I'm not saying you have to do that ... so long as you don't mind everyone laughing at you behind your back.

I shoulda probably been more observant, the 16 is sold out on this website (so I can't get the cheap shipping for orders over $100 using the 16) and also priced much higher than the rest, while the 2, 7 and 10 are all priced reasonably and are in stock. So, if the 2, 7, and 10 are the same price, which would be a better fit if I have a 5 and 9?

or should I just get both and resell the one that I don't use? hmmm

edit: good point JWheel, I may need some time to work out what I'm looking for other than a good deal price-wise.

My vote is for the 2, You have the 9 really no point in a 7 other than to just have it.

Ok, you have a 9 for chopping and larger work, so the 4 is a possibility, but that is your call since they going the way of the dodo (keep in mind, I Love mine). The 4 is different enough than the 9 to feel like it is a different knife, not just a slimmer or longer/shorter version of something else...

-5 and 7 are going to be close enough that it doesn't warrant the 7 yet, especially since you have a 9.

-The 16 will compete with the 15, and I Love the 15s blade shape.

-The 2 is nice, but Heavy. It will not be a likely scenario where you carry the 2 and the 9 due to weight alone.

-The 10 will compete with the 16, but on opposite ends of the spectrum. Both will be Great hiking knives, but the 16 might be less imposing, though the 15 would be on par with the 16 here and the 15 will be fine as a camp knife.

-10 and 15/16: What you are dealing with is a dichotomy between general use camp knives. 15/16 being more nimble for food, small game cleaning (trout/squirrel/rabbit sized) and (more) people friendly while the 10 is more confidence instilling due to mass alone, better for camp wood processing when you don't want to swing the 9 around a fire in smaller confines, and might be easier to grip in cold/wet weather depending on hand size and likely more durable than a 15/16.

-The only reason I state the 15/16 as one knife is because one can play the role of the other and not cause you to feel like you need to carry both or you will be lacking something.
--------------
If it were My money and My knife, I would take the 4. Though if I were limited to the choices listed here, it would be a 10. While I have a 2 and a 15, I feel I would gain more from having a 10 over a 2 than a 16 over a 15.

My choice is based solely upon the 15 being as camp friendly but seemingly more versatile than a 16, so no points lost/gained there (remember I am Very familiar with the blade shape, being a Butcher). The 10 though yields more of a large knife feel, while keeping the size manageable, not that frightening to the masses, and maintaining the ability to be stretched into a heavier role over the "smaller" knives.
And, having a 2 makes me feel that the 10 would be a better fit for my needs, wants and the confidence inspired.

Tldr: if not a 4, than a 10 only since the 15 and 16 overlap enough to not make me feel like I am missing something.

BK16 if it was in stock.

BK10 makes a good hiker/camper single carry - not too long, not too heavy, nimble enough for food prep, beefy enough for firewood prep, nice in-hand balance.

At this website, the 4 is priced higher than all the other ones listed, so that's a no-go.

Can't pimp out a non-paying vendor so I can't say where it is, but they have good prices on those listed and are overpriced on all other beckers

So you're down to a 2, 7, or 10. General knife or cool toy? That's the question you have to answer.

The 10 for sure out of those three.

I also feel like the 7 wouldn't be differentiated enough from the 5 or the 9 to be worthwhile.

Between the 10 and the 2, I'd say the 10 all day. The 10 is easily strong enough, so the added strength of the 2 for me just turns into added weight.

Well since you have a blade comparable to the 2 and the 16 is out of stock I say go with the 10. Or maybe consider not getting a Becker knife but something else.

Here's a video I did about a year ago (I need to update it with the 4, 5, and 15) but it has the rest that you're looking at. Maybe it will help you.

Between the 2, 7, and 10, the answer is the two.
The Two.
Get the two.
Just do it.
(If you're going to use the already have a BK2 sized knife to not get the two, just remember that the 10 would also be redundant.)

Finally someone else who appreciates the bk2.

I'm Silver Needle and I approve this message.

My 16 is my second favorite Becker only to the 9.

Do it!

EDIT: I did too much scrolling and not enough reading....... it sounds like you will end up with a really good pair of beckers!
