2- Backwoods -- "DIY" Scandi Bushcrafter KITS

Ok,I got the scales & pins glued up yesterday before leaving work & am going to go do the final shaping after breakfast.
I wanted to do wip pics but I did a lot of the work at work so pausing for pics would have been pushing it.
Pics when I get back.......

Done! Thanks for the blade Bill, doing the handle gives me an appreciation for the work that goes into a set of scales let alone the blade. You guys rock!
The hardest part though was sneaking in a little bit of work on 'em here & there at work.
(next to the hand sanding that is,that s**t sucks.)

Thanks,it came out better than I thought it would.
I had to grind the rear finger guard off to fit 4 fingers on the handle.
I'm very pleased with the results to say the least.

That looks good. I really wanted to buy one of these, but I'm not sure that I would be able to do the knife any justice. I'm going to be trying to scale a necker knife with some deer antlers that I have. I just have to figure out what would be the easiest way for me to attach them to the knife will be.

Welp,I had the thread done, but somehow lost it.I had the pics up & all the yakin' done,I was just going back to PB for another pic & some how between here & there it disappeared. :grumpy:
I'll just add the pics with the first one.

Thanks,I wasn't sure I could pull it off,but Chris gave me some good advice & I rehandled a couple of machetes & learned from them.
I've got some elk antler I thought about trying & still might, but really wanted to use this micarta.
It's from a really old hunk thats been hanging around at work for ages, way before I got there.
I talked my boss into letting me have a hunk & have been wanting to use some since doing the machetes.
Get yourself a cheapy machete for practicing on,I guarantee you'll learn some of the dos & don'ts.
I have a big old meat cleaver I'm going to mod for a chopper & think the elk antler will look good on it.

Here's the hunk I got my pieces from.(Under the bearings)

One more pic.
I decided to add the black rod to the second tube & contoured the handle a bit more for the index finger & made a couple of beads from some of the handle material.
It looks more balanced with the second tube filled like the front one.
I polished the blade up a bit with some 1200 grit too, didn't get all the grind lines out ,but it's a user & like I said.... hand sanding sucks.:barf:
Some pants are next,I'm waiting for some kydex to come in & a ferro rod which will have a matching handle.
And maybe a patina.(I found a way to get a nice stippled texture using an old sock)

Great Job Myke

Nice combo of the natural micarta/orange liners, and the black inserts in the pins is a nice touch.

Looks good Myke,
Nice featherstick too!!
Those orange liners POP!!
Thanks Joseph, feather sticks are easy with a nice sharp scandi & soft wood. ;)
