2 campers shot in their sleep

No doubt about it. There would be higher costs involved. I don't see it being nearly as bleak as you suggest though. I think that locking violent felons up would pay its own dividend. I mean, what is the cost of violent crime in this country? In dollars and cents it got to be in the tens of billions. Locking violent, repeat offenders for life would, I believe, dramatically effect the crime rate and drive these costs down. Throw in the cost reduction in human misery and I think it would be money well spent.

90% of the criminals committ 10% of the crimes. :grumpy: It's actually cheaper for society to keep criminals in prison than to pay higher insurance costs, replace lost possessions, lost wages due to death and injury, court costs. police salaries to write reports and constantly chase after these clowns, etc. Personally, I like the one jail cell alternative...when someone commits a crime, put him in there. When the next one commits a crime, shoot the first one in the head and put the second one in the cell, and so on. :D

Good Evening All-

My policy is to ALWAYS carry a semi-automatic pistol and extra loaded magazine whenever hiking in remote areas. You meet some very nice people along places like the Appalachian Trail, but you also encounter a bunch of weird folks...not to mention animals that no longer fear humans.

A nice holster to use is the Safepacker. It is available through www.thewilderness.com. Hang a pair of cheap yellow headphones on it and you'll be certain not to accidentally scare the sheeple.

If you're really heading into the back country and weight is a big concern, get a .357 Magnum in a Scandium-framed revolver. The weight is negligible, but it packs a full-power punch. While easily carried, this firearm won't have the durability of its heavier steel counterparts.
