So I've been wanting an older 110 to add to my collection. What better than one as old (or older) than I am? Found one and bought it for 45 bucks! Pretty much perfect as well, although dull as a butter knife. I can fix that though! A little gritty but I'm going to oil it up, and maybe buff up the brass a little.

Anyway, pictures!

You got a nice one, Macassar ebony with nice grain and color on the mark side and 440C steel.

It's pretty all over. Brass has some pitting, but minor. Blade is now sharp, hair popping. Oiled the pivot and she's much better, although there is grime that needs to be worked out. The ebony is gorgeous. This thing looks hardly used, even has a longer blade than my 2018! I kept finding ones with the blades sharpened to nothing for more money... This one was a great find!

Nice !!!

I love the old slab sided 110's

I have taken black shoe polish to some of those old sheaths.

Great find. Yours is in much better condition (and exceptionally prettier) than my circa 1974/1975 2 small handle pin 2 dot. :)

soc_monki, a good find. A handsome, square frame 110. About 1978 or 79. Yes, shoe polish will help that sheath. With the sheath flap opened,
is the top of the sheath scalloped? DM

Can you show me an example? I want to say it is, but I'm not sure.

Ok, thank you. There it is. Notice how the top of the pouch is not flat/ even all the way around. It has the scooped out top. This allows easier access to the knife with thumb & finger. That dates the sheath to the knife, - time frame. DM

I see! It was early this morning, was a little slow. Hadn't had my coffee yet! :D

No worries. Plus, 'Buck terms' can be confusing until you've heard them being used. Then you'll connect with what's being described. DM

I call these sheaths the low rider sheath, let's the knife ride lower on the belt and a lot less digging into your side.Access to Thr knife is easier as others said it makes it easy to get it out .

It's good to know a more exact date. I found a post showing the number and size of pins denoting year of manufacture as well. I figured this one was 78-80. Was hoping for an 80, as I was born in 80, but it's close enough!

The 440c is definitely different to sharpen compared to my current steels. I ended up ruining the edge I put on it, and redid it last night. The burr did not want to go away. I think I finally got it though. I meant to get out my loupe and look but never did, might have to do that soon. 14 degrees per side and did a microbevel on my sharpmaker. Should be good to go!

Have you tried a leather strop to remove the burr for a sharper finished edge?

I have noticed that 440C tends to hold a burr at times. I strop mine on hardwood at an elevated angle to remove the burr. This works. That steel will give you a real good, lasting edge. DM

I don't even own a strop, never needed one! I use my belt at times if I feel I need to, but I usually run the blade lightly through some plastic or wood to get rid of it. Usually works great, and I've got this 440c shaving hair effortlessly! I'll have to use it some and see how it holds up.
