An encounter from March '13 that serves as a warning to members participating in the trading forum (offers that seem to good to be true, usually are):
Backstory:
I was offering up a new ZT 0560 for trade.
Below are copy + pasted exchanged emails (it may make more sense if read from the bottom up)
Mr. B is myself and "X" (keeping his info private) is the fellow forum member who reached out to me and helped us both uncover the apparent scammer, a certain Kyle McCormick who claimed to have this NIB Benchmade 940D2CF up for trade.

He full of it no doubt, what a scammer need to report him to the mod if i only had proof.

Lol! It really looks like this guy is trying to scam forum members to pick up some free blades. I attached the pic he sent me.. clearly 2 regular 940's. If he knew how much his knife was worth (back in '05 even someone was selling one for over $300 http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/411934-NIB-Benchmade-940d2cf-LIMITED-ED-082-500 ) and even turn down a Sebenza I'm pretty positive my ZT 0560 he supposedly wanted to trade for wouldn't make the cut without me at least adding cash or another knife, which he didn't even mention. Here's the last few messages we exchanged before I decided that was enough of that...

Hahaha wow! yes there were a couple runs (each slightly different as far as the handle material or blade shape) & each was 500. I'm almost certain now it's not what he's saying it is. Out of curiosity what were you wanting to trade him the 940 for?

Dang I know seriously! Good looking out, as much as I'd like to think we're an honest community on the forums we gotta watch out for the dishonest forum members up to no good. He replied that there was bad lighting in the picture and that one of the 2 was definitely carbon fiber when I can see clearly across my computer monitor that it is a green anodized handle exactly as the one above it.

He also siad it was a .rei with d2 which i believe they where s30v , so its not carbon fiber then i might have to watch close. Damn what a nice blade to good to be true

Hey man,
Yeah I'm suddenly really suspicious, I did find that pic from a 2007 sale but he'd mentioned he got it from a collector, so I figured...that must have been the sale were he obtained it so I was all good. I specifically asked about the carbon fiber scales which he confirmed.. Today I asked him to send me a pic of the pocket-clip side & he replied telling me he has 2, and sent me a pic of 2 regular 940's with green anodized handles (one with a black clip, one with a silver clip)

hangup for me but does it come with box/papers? Attached nicer high-def
