In the past several weeks I have bought knives from both of these folks and had nothing but a pleasant experience. Very nice to deal with and I really like the pieces I bought. The TJ Smith is his first forged bowie and the dagger I got from John gets all kinds of comments. I sent a scan to Rob Brown in South Africa as we've been communicating back and forth about the California style knives and he liked it too.
These 2 guys can be counted on to give great value for the money and deal with a real newbie to handmade knives in a straightforward manner.
