Been watching Forged in Fire Knife Fight.

Been disappointed that people are choosing silly knives/swords rather than one that is best for the course.

Really some silly choices.

This past week there was a weird guy (gold tooth guy) with an awesome 2-handed chopper, seemed perfect for the course. And he destroyed with it.

Bottom line I want one.

Closest I can find is the ZombieTools Reaver Cleaver.

I was finished with them when they stopped offering the Rough & Ready finish.

How about an larger HNWS with a 2 handed handle?

Caveat: I haven't seen the show (and I think it's called "Knife or Death"). I think that "weird guy"might be a maker here on BF. ;)

ETA - I think it was "Big Chris".

I think the episode to which he was referring was the one from 15 May; it was "Knife and Death" - "The Kukri Monster". According to the History Channel site, there was a contestant on named Chris, who brought in and used an old Barong.

I had just watched a bunch of that show the other day for the first time.
First it would probably be really awesome an fun to be a contestant and than for the type of blade I would use something with double edge. The fish stopped the most people... someone with 2 edges could save one side for that part of the course.

I’ve watched every episode, the beauty of spending late nights at the work bench.

Big Chris was on with a competition chopper and was amazing to watch. Lost to another competition chopper rival in the finale.

The guy the Geoff is referring to is this week episode and the dude was rather unique and just a tad intense, I think his name was Wayne Miller. He made the knife himself and it was a modified wharncliffe IIRC With about a 20” blade, probably 2.5 hand grip and was built out of M4. He called it Guilloteen. They never said the thickness but it was a beast.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing more as plenty of people will want one now.

I was thinking the same thing. One side with a an obtuse angled edge to beat on the ice blocks and another thinner efge for softer targets. Every time someone went after the fish i kept yelling at the tv "Go thru the spine first!!". Lol!

Big Chris did compete. But he was not the one with the two handed cleaver/chopper.

There have been people on the show use some world class blades. Dan Keffler had one of his knives on. Big Chris, and a few other competition choppers. I saw a Carothers chopper on the other day.

One of the issues that seems to be cropping up, is that the contestants are made to wear gloves (like cut resistant gloves) lots of them have grip issues.

Big Chris did not!

But the lady that was using the Dan Keffler competition chopper did. Several have lost their grips and had the knife dangling by the lanyard.

I have a couple of Busse I think would do well. KZII, and a WTF BG....but at 12 inches, and 11.5 inches, a few of the targets would be easier with a tad bit more blade length.

I'd like to try my beater Bastard sword on that course, but I'd have to modify the grip a bit, and thin/lighten it a bit. It is pretty heavy. I'd also like to try this battle axe. I believe the blade edges measure more than 12 inches, not counting the curvature!

If I could pick a sword or knife, I'd probably take a Dan Keffler Super Assissin design. Ive seen him take down an 8 inch tree in two strokes with one.

Or one from many other makers.

A Busse short Butanku would aquit its self well, if you practiced, tuned the edge/grind a bit. It is a little heavy to swing at easy targets like a fowl, or at the ground and then to have to check the swing, especially with a single hand swing.

Shoot, people have done well with 100 year old Barong's and other knives.

There are a few cuts that favor the longer edges, like the buckets, and the bit 5 gallon water cooler jugs. All the rest can be cut with a shorter blade easily.

The fish cut, having a longer blade does help, mostly because it takes some of the skill necessary to line up the cut on the sweet spot out of the equation. If you can miss the sweet spot, and still have another 11 inches of blade past that, it can be a bit easier.

I'd like to see a few real cutting experts on the show put some better targets out. I'm always of the opinion a hanging pig or deer is great.....

Yes! This is the guy/knife I was talking about. The Guilloteen!!!!

I have an AK47 but would not consider it a “chopper” the gladiolus would probably do well

Lol “spine 1st” I yell it also my wife thinks I’m crazy.

Of my current knives I’d use my NMFBM or BB13.

Here are a few 2 handed options... kodiac up top.. it’s got a great balance and not too heavy as some would be tiresome in the competition .. however would love to get my hand’s on a chuckett:) both that is! Frankly I think it would dominate on the show.

Oooo.....I see some Miller blades in there!!!

Bill Siegle made this one for me around 2003. It's 26 inches (OAL) of 3/8" thick 5160. The slot at the base of the blade was intended for a sturdy adjustable lanyard of the type used on mountaineering ice axes. It is a pure chopper, with a flat ground blade and convex edge. The beast weight about 6 pounds. In the right hand it would make quite a mess of the Knife Fight stage sets

I never knew what the Hog Nose War Sword would really be good for but I bet that one with a nice convex would totally kick ass in that competition. If the handle were stretched out enough for a good two handed grip it would be absolutely unstoppable.
