would you pay 150 dollars for a 2 horsepower baldor electric motor, used, single phase,110/220, 1750rpm? I plan on using it for a 2x72 grinder.
I found 1 on craigslist about a 4 hour drive from me...

I wouldn't drive 4 hours for that. Check ebay. For not much more you can get a brand new Leeson or similar delivered right to your door. Some of those sellers include shipping. Shop around.

Baldors are good practically bulletproof motors, the industry standard for grinders and polishers. I have one in my Kalamazoo grinder that has been abused for over 20 years without a rebuild or new bearings. When they do need service there are parts available. I personally think they are a great investment, however the time and fuel cost involved in a 4 hour (I assume you mean each direction) drive probably double or, depending on your mileage triple the cost. I have driven 4 hours each way to buy a complete metal lathe with tooling, I am not sure I would drive that far for a 2 horse motor even for free

I've killed a couple "used" Baldors though myself. Even ones that looked and seemed mechanically perfect to start with. Admittedly they came from the local scrapyard, but they take motors separately and they don't sit more than a few days before being shipped off.

I'd take a new Baldor over a new anything else, but honestly I think I'd rather have a new Leeson or similar over a used Baldor or otherwise. They may last forever, but they may not, and how they've been stored can have a big impact on their longevity.

I've got a couple good sources for new motors, if you PM me, I'll help you out.
