I haven't posted much for awhile. Been trying to get my shop finished. Today I ran my 50lb. LG for the first time. Got it last fall, but had to rebuild it, new babbit, new pins, adjustable arm, cleaning, etc. Took a lot longer than I thought. Did it all myself! Now I can start banging some real steel.

Here are 2 knives I did in the meantime, stock removal of course.
These are my designs, all work done by me in my shop.
S30V and Ironwood
Blade: S30V, 1/8 thick at ricasso, 3.75 “ tip to bolster, Rc 59-60. Hollow ground.
Handle: Ironwood, 4.5 “ including bolster, dovetailed to Bolster
Bolster: Hardened 416 SS
Pins: 1/8” SS
Spacers: Red plastic

S30V and Bocote
Blade: 1/8” S30V, 5” tip to bolster, Rc 59-60, Hollow ground
Handle: Bocote, 6” including bolster, dovetailed to bolster
Bolster: Hardened 416 SS
Pins: ¼” SS
Spacers: Red plastic

Still need to make sheaths and sharpen. Hope you like them. Let the comments fly.

Thanks for the compliment. I will post pictures in a few days as soon as I clean up the mess around the LG from the rebuild project. At 64(almost) and retired, I have a lot of time but not much energy. Misspent 40 years as a psychologist and got out of shape.

You cast your own bearings?? That, sir is awesome!

Tried the hammer out. I bought the DVD from Wild Rose Forge, very helpful. When I got the hammer it jumped and clacked and did not hit very well. Today it is much qiueter, runs smooth and hits hard every time. Flattened out a piece of mild steel angle in about 10 seconds. Really looking forward to using it on some real steel. I have some 1084, 5160 and 9260. When I forged them with a hammer and anvil, I was tired and sore for days. Now I can pretend that I am a young smith with nearly unlimited smashing steel energy.
Pics will follow in a few days.
