If it had to be Wal Mart...
Knives of Alaska Bush Camp knife or Knives of Alaska Alpha Wolf Knife. Both use a good enough steel (D2). The camp knife is thick enough to baton if you had to, is full tang, has a decent enough sheath, has some jimping on the thumb area for some control on finer work, and no finger guard. I have one and it is a good knife for a production knife. The AW is a little smaller, would be easier to use for finer work, is also full tanged, and has a decent sheath. I'd combine it with one of the following:
Kershaw Camp Axe (carbon steel and all one piece) or multi-tool.
What I'd probably do is go with the knife and either the axe or multi-tool and then go find a couple Coghlan's Deluxe Commando cable saws. The Commando saws are surprisingly versatile for the money and I don't think they get their due in a lot of respects.
I also like tknife's idea of the Old Hickory knife.
