Ok Heres The Deal, You Can Only Have 2 Knives To Take To The Woods, But These 2 Knives Have To Come From A Retail Store Such As Wally World Or Other Chain Type Stores. Im Talking Buying Them And Gouing Straight Out On A Camping Trip Or Hike And So Forth. What Would Ya Choose?:d

The Wallmart in the US carry a better selection of cutlery than they do in Canada. So I would probably go to Canadian Tire.

The two knives I'd buy would be a Buck 119 and a SAK - camper.

Both available at my local retail and two knives I'd feel pretty comfortable with for camping chores.

Ok, if there is no dollar limit for going to a local Walmart (I picked only knives they said were available in local store).
1) Knives of Alaska, Camp knife w/Suregrip
2) Victorinox SwissTool Spirit S

With a Limit (I said $60)
1) Gerber Big Rock Camp Knife or Gerber Gator Drop Point (Fine Edge)
2) Victorinox Farmer (WallieWorld calls is a 9 Function SAK for some reason)

Those are specific to WalMart, but you get the idea. :)

For me i'd want a multi/SAK and some kind of chopper.
I'd go to Canadian Tire and get a Vic Huntsman and a 14" Fiskars axe.
You just don't see knives with blades longer than 6 inches around here.
Buck 119 is about as big as it gets, unless you include machetes.
But the two Tramontina's i looked at yesterday at a local hunting store had atrocious grinds, the first two inches of the tip end had no grind at all!
Another axe choice would be a Wetterlings saw13.

WM carries the Old Hikory knives, I'd grab one of the butcher knives and a SAK.

Wally World by me? My choices would be Buck 119 (the call it the "Special") and a Leatherman Wave. I'd prefer a SAK Swisstool X or something, but my Walmart only has Leatherman stuff :(

Walmarts in the states have a much larger selection than Walmarts here in Canada.
Here its limited to 6 or so Bucks (119/110/55 and the slipjoints), 3 or 4 vics, 3 or 4 Leathermans. And No Spyderco's at all!
The kitchen knife selection is even more limited.
Stainless only.

I have no idea what your stores sell up there. But going by what I have heard a SAK - probably a huntsman or some multitool - wave. And probably a chopping tool - Fiskars?

Thanks for the great responces guysKeep them coming. This is gouing to help me decide how to spend some B-Day money.

I would take a Leatherman Charge TTi and The biggest finest Buck 119 I could find, if I were in a Wallyworld.

If it had to be Wal Mart...

Knives of Alaska Bush Camp knife or Knives of Alaska Alpha Wolf Knife. Both use a good enough steel (D2). The camp knife is thick enough to baton if you had to, is full tang, has a decent enough sheath, has some jimping on the thumb area for some control on finer work, and no finger guard. I have one and it is a good knife for a production knife. The AW is a little smaller, would be easier to use for finer work, is also full tanged, and has a decent sheath. I'd combine it with one of the following:

Kershaw Camp Axe (carbon steel and all one piece) or multi-tool.

What I'd probably do is go with the knife and either the axe or multi-tool and then go find a couple Coghlan's Deluxe Commando cable saws. The Commando saws are surprisingly versatile for the money and I don't think they get their due in a lot of respects.

I also like tknife's idea of the Old Hickory knife.

I'd go with a Buck 110 (maybe that stag + S30V version), and either an Estwing hatchet or folding saw. All are sold at my local Cabela's retail store.

Is REI a major retailer?

Benchmade fixed grip and a leatherman wave or swisstool.

If I had to go with W, it would be a wave and a buck nighthawk!

I would perish on this one....nothing in the big box stores can touch my hands...
