Why not just pose the question of our preferred two layer models instead of asking us to pick one from a list of your top pics without any context as to why were picking, and why these models are on the list?

The evolution 10 and evolution grip 10 are just two versions of the same model BTW, a different version of scales which are replaceable do not make a different model.

Oh and a bistro that fails to serve something they know is extremely popular and knows will sell a lot just because they don't like it won't be in business very long.

I'll go ahead and leave this thread now because I realized theres really no point to it, you're not looking for conversation and it seems to me ( could he wrong ) that you just want your top choices validated.

Why not just go start your own thread and your own poll?
It's real easy....I can't help you do it if you like.

Yes, everyone knows.

There are very successful bistros the world over that don't offer some of the most commonly liked dishes.
Where I'm from just about everyone likes pulled pork BBQ...but there are plenty of very successful restaurants here that don't serve pulled pork BBQ.
Don't be so narrow minded.
Many folks go out to eat something that they can't easily make for themselves at home.

I listed just about every 2 layer SAK that Vic offers, with the exception of the Recruit and the Cadet...that's hardly listing my own top choices.
Not to mention that the forum software only allows for so many poll options.

It seems to me that you're so upset about the Recruit not being in the poll because it didn't validate your choice.

Thank you for careing enough to argue your position...it shows both passion and conviction.
And thank you for voting.
Bravo!

The Sportsman was long my favourite two layer until I discovered the delights of the small blade. I also have a small Tinker and Tourist. I like them all but the Tourist gets the nod overall as I find the corkscrew more useful than the back Phillips. I also like the Recruit. ;)

I've been trying to enjoy the Spartan lately, and just can't - not as much as the Tourist. It does all the Spartan can in a more easily carried package. That said, I'd be plenty happy with the Spartan if it were all I had.

The Evolutions are basically the same as the Sportsman with bulkier scales and a nicer blade shape. I have zero interest in the Compact, perhaps because my lifelong picture of a two layer pocket knife has a full opener layer and no scissors.

Tinker.
Just to be a smart alec, Pioneer and recruit also score well as they have no backside tool and feel much better in the hand ( to me . Obviously, YMMV)
I take your point about less functionality, but that's what my van( or tool belt ) full of screwdrivers etc is for .:D The in hand comfort factor is what spins my wheels personally, but I like coming here and seeing how we all enjoy our knives differently.
As our French brethren say , " Viva la difference!"

yeah, I gotta side with Storm on this, and I hate being a smart a--!

My most favorite two layer of all time, aside from my executive, is the old time proven pioneer/Wenger SI. The old Boy Scout knife layout with everything you need and nothing you don't. Plus they're alox, none of that fragile cellidor!!!

I can’t pick one, maybe Spartan. It was my first, and has most of what I need. I do like the Evolution 10 a lot. The nail file instead of small blade is great... so, then I also really like the Sportsman. Okay, if I did have to choose real fast, Spartan.

You know, if I am honest with myself, there isn't much that I can't handle with nothing more than a Spartan. It's the perfect minimalist package for my day to day needs. I'm a wine drinker, and I find a corkscrew can be pressed into all kinds of creative roles when it comes to needing to complete a unique job.

I would say that after the Explorer, the Spartan may be my favorite SAK.

I have about 300 Swiss knives but the one I always have in my pocket is the "Compact", it has all the necessary tools, le plus polyvalent pour un encombrement réduit, avec stylo, lime à crochet et ingénieux outil combo

Very good question...and here's the answer:

The lack of tools on the backside of the Recruit and Cadet reduces the functionality and overall usefulness of those SAKs too much IMHO.

After all, why have a Recruit when you can have everything the Recruit has plus the advantages of a corkscrew, micro screwdriver holder, awl, punch, reamer, and sewing needle with the Tourist (or substitute the corkscrew with a phillips driver with the Small Tinker)?

And they stack up nearly identically when it comes to size and weight...

Height is the same.
Length is the same.
Weight diffence is 0.1 oz

The Cadet adds a nail file/nail cleaner, but it looses the toothpick and tweezers.

I hope this explains my choices for the poll.

I own them all: Recruit, Tinker, Tourist. The Tourist with the corkscrew is thicker in pocket than the Recruit. The Tinker with the philips driver is flush. I've found both to not be as snag free as the Recruit when you have other junk in your pocket, and the Recruit is by far the most comfortable when you're really gripping down hard on the handle.

That said I personally turn to the Tourist/Tinker more than the Recruit, but I wouldn't disagree with anyone who likes the Recruit.

"Compact", the most versatile for a small footprint, with pen, file on hook, and ingenious combo tool
I too once thought the Compact would be the perfect small pocket carry SAK...until I actually got one.
The combo tool was the deal breaker.
It's just too much of a compromise tool for me.

But I do like the file on the hook, and Vic should make that standard for all SAKs with a hook!

Fully agree with you on the combo tool. Shows so much promise but sucks with real world use. I'm amazed that Victorinox put out such a bad design. I agree with you also about the file on the hook. Why on earth don't they make that as standard?
