2-line 1968-71 120 General value ?

I have an old 2-line 120 General that I bought in 1969 and found was too big to carry.Have never carried or used it but, like an idiot,I touched up the edge a little with a stone.
Since I'm getting well into my 70's and have no grandson's,I've about decided to get rid of some knives.
Is it worthwhile putting this kind of stuff on eBay or would I be better off peddling it at a knife show.
Any Buck experts have an idea of it's value ?

That will be a very popular item on e-Bay if you have good pictures and describe it well.

Actually, it will get a lot of attention no matter what.

If you check the current and completed auctions on e-Bay you will find that these have been selling well with lots of bidders and at what I would consider high prices.

I would probably bid on it until I ran out of money.

:)

Oh yeah, value.

On a good week, I suspect you might get more than $100 for it because it's old and in great condition......and they seem to like the old flap-type sheaths and most you see are in poor condition while yours looks really good.

I know nothing about knife show prices.....I'm a hermit......and not an expert.

I suggest you watch the 120 auctions for a couple of weeks just to get a feel for what you can expect. I'd spend an extra dollar for the bold auction title and an extra 40 cents to do a ten-day auction starting on a Thursday night.

Would be nicer if it went to one of the guys on here - as they love their bucks and I would think you would like it to go to a nice home.

Sure hope Bucka runs out of money afore I do......but I don't think that's possible.

:D

I must disagree on the start/end date & time. Here's my philosophy -

Make sure the auction ends on a weekday, preferably Wed or Thurs. Adjust the end time to 10:00 PM EDT. This allows the East coasters to make frantic bids before going to bed, and the West coasters have time to get home, eat, and fire up their PCs.

I recommend against ending an auction on the weekend (or Fri), because if you are selling, you want your bidders home and not out with kids or wives/girlfriends. Too much going on and you don't want them leaving a proxy bid and then going out...you want them right there, watching, and putting bids in until the last possible second...

Bidders can find all kinds of reasons to increase their bid beyond their "ceiling"...Low shipping costs; five bucks more won't hurt...heck, even ten more is worth it...but they gotta *be there* to get caught up in the frenzy of a runaway auction...

The ten day auction is a good idea. Lots of us have Favorite Search flags for Buck 120 General; the ten days will give us time to justify the $$$... :)

Ebay might get you a bit more cash. However, their fees and Paypal eat up some of that margin.

I think I'll list stuff on websites first, ask for postal MO's so I don't get hit with the 3% Paypal fee and see how it goes. Ebay has been a pain for me lately and I would be fine getting a fair price with folks I know.

That's being said, Ebay often does get the highest price for an item.

There's a guy HERE with a thread about a 119 (Bought a Special) that really seems to want a 120.

If you want to e-mail me, I'll sure chat about it, too. I don't have an OLD 120 yet.

I have a 1969 110 that might want a big brother.

Now Chickentrax.....there's a lot of truth in what you said, but remember that Sunday evening is a time a lot of people buy on e-Bay.

The only thing I worry about is that they'll be too busy buying to buy MY item.

That said, I have started a lot of ten-day auctions on a Friday night and had good results with it ending on a Monday.

Guys,
Thanks for the comments and input !!
I think I may list it this Friday.
I've also got a 2-line 103 Skinner that I bought at the same time. I've dressed and skinned a fair amount of bucks with it,so it has been carried and used.Haven't used it for 15 years ago as I've been carrying my Dad's old Marble's Woodcraft for sentimental reasons.
Didn't they change the number of that Skinner since it was first issue.
I think these 2-lines were made of 440 steel.
Just wish that I'd saved the original boxes for these knives and for all of those old wooden fishing plugs that I bought when I was a kid! :(
Ron

Yours is undoubtedly 440C.....and you're right.....boxes are more important than we ever knew.

Ah well, we just do the best we can and try to have fun.

I'll be watching for that 120 on e-Bay!

I'm looking for a 103 if you want to sell it privately, send me an email with your price.

Steve

Steve,
I haven't made up my mind on the 103.If I decide to sell it,I'll let you know.

When your 120 auction begins, why don't you post a comment saying so in this thread...of course, it is against Forum rules to post a link or even quote the auction number of a "live" auction, but knowing that it is up will be enough... :)

...And it certainly won't hurt your chances for a successful auction... ;)

Just use the code word "OVALTINE" in your post. And we'll know to do the search.

Well, almost. I was given a 120 by my grandfather for Christmas 1969. I still have it, and the sheath, but no box AFAIK. It's exactly like yours, but it's basically never been out of the closet :( because it was/is just too darned big for anything I ever wanted to do. I bought myself a 110 in 1972...still have that one, too, but has been a partner and a user.
