  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

That's interesting...I've been told that we give others what we would like to be given ourselves...Did your grandfather like to hunt???

No, that was my other grandfather. He, semi-unfortunately, shot ducks, which I have zero interest in. I can't use his duck guns on pheasants. :(

The 120 came from the olllld, original Abercrombie & Fitch. He had my initials engraved on the spine. It's one of those things you'd never sell, but for me, also something I'll never use...

Just use the code word "OVALTINE" in your post. And we'll know to do the search.

Buckaholic,
I'm not familiar with Ovaltine, When I was a kid during the depression, coffee soup was the popular breakfast fare.
Of course, being lucky enough in being a farmer's kid,we also had our own ham, bacon, and eggs.
If anybody has any questions,e-mail me by Thursday as we're going to the hunting camp on the 30th.Annual "spring fling" - poker,BS,naps, and hard cider. No work unless an emergency arises.:D

...

I dunno...I used to hunt deer with an Ithaca 16ga long barrel...never got one, but I'd just slip in some #9's and bag a bunny or two...really tasty...basted with butter and broiled...couldn't tell it wasn't chicken...never could figure out what happened to the pellets...*I* never bit into them...  :)

I have your luck with the pellets. The rest of 'em get free DIY fillings. :D Seriously, I could have the chokes bored out and may, but something keeps me from having that done...ya can't go back...dunno...

EXACTLY like my hunt camp! Actually we do get a bit of work done during the spring trip but not that much. Great, isn't it?
Great camp! What's the story on the building?

It was built in 1912 on our 62 acres, near the top of Laurel Mountain.
38' X 24' 2-story with half basement.11 beds upstairs.
No electricity - 2 propane kitchen stoves,lights,2 refrigerators, and hot water tank.
Gravity flow water from 600 ft. up the mountain to the kitchen on the first floor;and to sinks, shower, and commode in the the basement.
Large fireplace between kitchen and main room, old double-burner kerosene heatrola opposite the fireplace,
The little addition on the left side is where we put the beer keg for tapping. It keeps it cold in the summer and prevents it from freezing in the winter. The line runs into the kitchen.
Four miles to the nearest paved road - 3 of them on private property and not maintained.Need high-clearance vehicle anytime and 4X4 with chains when it's bad.

Nice Ron!
We're a fly in camp with two thousand acres of territory that surrounding camps respect and avoid unless there looking for dogs. Wood for heat, a pump at the lake that supplies water to the camp. Propane hot water tank, stove and lights. Shower coming off the back of the camp so you shower right in the snow storm. We're fooling around with solar lights which is pretty neat. Our keg sits on the front porch and the spigot is on the wall in camp with a deer foot for a lever. Tough country to hunt but I wouldn't want it any other way.

Terry,
That sounds great.Your province has some beautiful country!
We used to fish Temagami a good bit and I always thought I'd like to have a camp on it.
Our friends had a camp and 3 acres on an island in the SW corner near the Boy Scout camp.Always had the live box full of walleyes !!
That was almost 40 years ago,so it may have changed somewhat.

Actually, you could, there may not be much left though - LOL

Yep, assuming I managed to hit the pheasant with a full choke pattern???

I did once hit one at all of about 7 yards with a modified bore and while the bird was not quite cleaned, cooked and digested, there were definitely parts missing...

I've done some skeet shooting with a 12ga full choke... I'm not saying it's easy, but when you hit a disk, they vaporize :)
