*Like one pictured here.

If you live in CA, and an auto nut, you know what a blessing these babies are!

Arggh!

Math check.

5.75" open - 3.375 closed = 2.375" blade length. No? Which is the usual spec for a UTX-70 and a bit long for it to be California legal.

Has this blade been ground down?

(Measure twice, cut once.)

my bad ... I just ripped the specs off a website. I actually measured the blade though ... let me seeeeeeeee.

Length, Closed: 3.375" (Check)
Length, Open: 5.125" (Check)
Blade Length: 1.75" (Check)

These are both Mint. The only way I got these was because of the blade length. Thank goodness for the 2" or less law.

I will post a pic of one of the actual knives by a ruller here in a second.

Ryan, that picture would be great... this came at the worst time cause I just ordered a Pro-tech stringer last week.

I know that out-the-side 2" (and under) autos are legal here in California, but am not too clear about Out-the-fronts.

Anyone can point me in the right direction in terms of confirming this? I'd hate for it to end up in the hands of five-o.

On the outside of the box it says 125-2-CA. Pretty sure the CA is for CALegal.

An interesting note, MT must have changed the specs on the new knives they put out in 07. I just pulled my UTX70 DE Damascus (which I am thinking of selling too) out of the safe and measured the blade and it is 2.25" and that is the sharpened portion. From your pictures you can see that yours is clearly under 2". I wonder if they changed the length to be CA legal? Also, I dont think older versions were in S30V. Anyone know anything about this?

The minis are a special version of the UTX with a shorter blade. They seem to vary blade steel based on availability and maybe other factors.
