Finished rough profiling these last night. Please me know what you think.

Top is a neck knife. I'm thinking a chisel grind. It can be gripped with the hole in the palm of the hand or with your middle finger through the hole.

Lower knife is more of a hunter/bird&trout knife.

Again any feedback is appreciated.

B&T knife looks good. I would toss the other in a drawer to use as a box cutter. It looks terrible to me, but opinions differ.

You might want to drop the tip just a tad on the B&T blade. Maybe 1/8". It will improve the look.

After looking at the pic I was thinking drop the clip. Smooth a little more in the middle and take a touch off of the hump in the handle.

I think the "box cutter" :D is prbly mostly tacticool and will likely end up serving truck duty and I'll add the current truck duty knife (cheap Gerber partially serrated tanto) to the PIF thread. I think finishing it is worth the practice if nothing else.

Thanks for the feedback!

That old circular saw blade is useless for making knives.

Hey saltyveins,

I'm a little confused by the top design. i appreciate the creativity, but I would say that it would offer little practicality, or be very useful.

I like the bottom knife. Drop the point down a little bit, and you have a winner.

The steel for these isn't going to be a good choice for a knife blade. I encourage you to keep the design, and that saw blade makes for a good template. Look at the knife supply houses and get yourself a 1inch wide, 1/8th thick piece of a nice carbon steel (1084) or a piece of decent stainless (cpm-154 or 440c) and use that saw blade as your template.

Great start!

Neck knife only needs about 1/8 - 3/16 inch of steel around the hole. Try using it with gloves on
Blade is too wide and blunt
Drop the point a bit and slant the tip more or make it longer
You are trying to incorporate a strong tip design on a blade that is meant for penetration and quick jabs for SD
Remember if you tried to use that on me for "example" I would get cut but you will have a broken finger and get cut badly!
Use good steel not found or scrap

The top design could work as bench knife to trim leather or smooth a piece of wood. The circle would fit in the palm of the hand allowing tough cuts away from the body. I've read that any circular saw blade with the carbide tips is pretty much worthless as knife steel. Glue a couple of pieces of soft wood to the handle on your B&T and start working on the ergonomics. With the short handle you have, that hump might work for your hand.
