So..I went to Cabela's with the intention of picking up a Rossi Trifecta. Well, I decided that a 2 hr. wait to talk to someone at the gun counter was uncalled for, especially since I begin working at Academy in 2 weeks and can probably find the gun there and use my discount. So...to console myself I picked up a few new things to test out.

CamelBak MULE:

3L water capacity and enough little pockets to stash some decent 72-hr gear in. Couldn't beat the price at $50. I may go back and pick up another for my bro to take to Iraq.

I do alot of biking, so this lil champ for only $15 was definitely worth the stop. I don't need all the stowaway capacity of the MULE when I'm on the bike, so this will fit my needs there as well.

Brunton Binoculars:

I picked these up since I sent my smaller set off in the pay it forward thread, not realizing I had given my other set to my youngest brother. It also came with the Gerber ParaFrame 1. Not a bad set-up to keep in the pack for $20.

Aquamira Frontier Filter:

Never have used one of these before. Actually, I usually just boil my water, but I figured the extra few ounces wouldn't kill my pack.

Of course, all of this will be field-tested and reviewed hopefully in the next few weeks.

cool stuff.

one time i waited for 30 minutes at the knife counter in Dick's sporting goods so that i could ask to handle one of the knives on display...noone ever came to see what i wanted. i went home.

i'm particularly interested in the filter. they look really cool and handy, a good backup or for ultralight travel.

I was in the area last year and stopped at Cabela's. Lots and lots of stuff but no one wants to sell it to you. I decided to move on too. Too bad with that store in Texas I have to pay tax on catelog orders. :thumbdn:

HT...you should try Bass Pro out in Katy, though you probably already know that. I am from Tomball, so I spend alot of my time back home out there.

I like the first pack, let me know how it works out, I'm kinda interested in one of those. Give us a review after you fill it up w/ everything :D

Been there many times. A little out of the way for me. They have a new Bass Pro at 288 and Beltway 8 which is on my way to the bay.

I take it you are in Austin. My son lives there. Sort of a cross between a hippie, skinhead and software nerd. At least he lives on his own dollar.
