I’ve been playing around with this design for a while. I wanted to make a skinner, and after drowning in photos and reading all I could about what makes a good skinner I kept being drawn back to the Nessmuk. His design was perfect for back in the day and even is today, but wasn’t fitting my desire. After tweaking to may standards, I came up with this beauty.
Its cutting edge does not plane out, allowing for a continuous slice. The hump towards the tip which served as a makeshift spoon, aid in the pinch grip and as a paddle for the freshly skinned hide to lie against was removed to slim the overall profile. A divot was placed to the front of the handle for the thumb to apply extra pressure when breaking through joints. The handle is left slightly rough to avoid slippage.
What makes this extra special is the steel. Nitro-V in the new kid on the block, and I must say, I’ve already fallen for this steel. Holy cow is this steel sharp! Enough talk. Enjoy the pictures!
