after my quest for the xm-24, I was so amazed that i just had to have an edc version of it!
sold pretty much all my other knives and the 3 1/2 inch xm-18 is on its way (sorry map :p)!
ETA: friday 15th feb!
beadblasted handle - green g10- spanto - flipper

Hey, no need to be sorry because you won't be sorry any way you go with a Hinderer!!!! And you're gonna want a 3" soon! Heheheheh....

One of each (at least) But...... 3.5" Spanto Flipper - Inbound. Yep.... not bad, not bad at all

Yeah i know :p wont be until long tough... I figured if the 3,5 is still too large i can trade it for a 3 anyway :)

I was wondering, what does hellfire and firetac stand for ? I know they are different hinderer models, but why are they not on his site ? Could you guys give me some more info ?

Older models and such. Firetacs are pre-XM hand-made beauties.

They sport names Rick chose because of his Firefighter/EMT background. The Experimental Model (XM) gives a nod to this with the #18.

Great place to see some of Rick's earlier work is on the early pages of the photo thread here. Internet photo search might bring about a few images too.

As for exactly why each model has its name--I cannot say with certainty.

Congrats on the 3.5.

Hellfire is a type of grind Rick has done on various models over the years and is a sought after XM-18 custom. The Firetac is a knife model Rick produced in many variations. There is lots of info throughout this forum if you spend some time going through older threads. Also, check out the Hinderer Knives website:

I'm thinking it was about 10-12 years ago that Rick built 4 large titanium frame locks with the now recognizable Hellfire profile and grind. I think they had 4 1/2" blades. Largest folder Rick had made before or since. That's when he was making another titanium frame lock called the Firetac. He built quite a few of those with all different blade styles and sizes.

it has arrived! glad i bought the 3,5 instead of the 3! I was gladly surprised by how compact it is!
makes you realize how huge the xm-24 really is! i'm not fond of the green g-10, tought it was od-green, but must've misread, eitherway, i'm gonna buy a blue-black g-10 scale for this sucker!
here are some pics with big brother

ps: the pics really dont do it justice. the ti is much darker irl, much like a sebenza scale, the green g-10 is much darker aswell! and the spanto... that is one brutal tip!

Btw map, i sent the mnandi 2 days ago, i forgot to send you the tracking code. I'm at university right now, but i'll send it tonight when i get home!

No worries RC. I don't fret over tracking numbers until something is obviously out of window and requires follow-up. Love the bead blast on your new XM!!!

Yeah, it looks nice, but the stonewash is more handy for multiple reasons. 1) i already scratched it when taking it appart to add some grease 2) it is much grippier than the sw, making it quite aggressive to my pants pocket! However, after a day of carry, it's instant love! It feels so similar but yet so different than my xm-24! It makes the same opening and closing sound, but the xm-18 definitely has tighter tolerances! It's centering is better and the flipping action requires no wrist flick at all. If i want my xm-24 dead center i have ro weist flick it open. Also the feel in the hand is quite different. The balance of the knife seems different, not better, just different. It is however, much more suited for edc! The xm-24 is really hard to edc for me, due to it's massive size! Will get a 3" over time, but not now tough, maybe in 6-12 months or so!
Thank you all for being so awesome and giving me someone to share my passion with! My gf is scared of knives(tough she has learned to deal with it, a year ago, she did not want to sleep with a knife on my/her nightstand, now she's much cooler about it and actually takes interest in it, however, i know she really doesnt care and does it to please me) and my friends think it's plain weird(hence why most people, dont know about it) a mate once told me there was this crazy kid in high school that carried a bali to school. He then asked me if i had a bali so i said yes. He was clearly quite uncomfy and said semi kidding semi asking that i prolly had drawer filled with knives(wich was the case) but i told him i didnt, because i did not want to freak him and bystanders out! It just feels nice to be able to tslk openly about it with other people!
