I cut one of my old scuba tanks for a quench tank, is there anything wrong with using it? It is very thick wall aluminum . Also can you think of a use for this horizontal aluminum propane tank I have ?

If you need to pre heat your oil, I would think it'll take quite a bit of time to settle out. I have a large ammo can with just over 6 gallons of canola oil in it running a 110V hot water heater element to heat it. Takes right about an hour. Which isn't bad because I usually run my forge about an hour to let it soak at temp before doing any heat treating.

Just like your forge, too thick and too much heat sink capacity. A thin walled tank works fine for oils that will be heated to 130F. Your scuba tank will be fine for Parks#50, as it is used at room temp.

Yea I thought about the trying to heat thing. Got any suggestions for that aluminum propane tank? Maybe make it a quench tank but would hold too much oil. I have other things laying around I can make quench tanks. Just checking all my junk.

I haven't measured either one. The aluminum propane tank is a 20# so I would guess liquid wise might hold between 4-5 gal. That thick scuba tank maybe about the same. If I use the scuba tank it will be for room temp oil.
