Good find, You get em cleaned up & rehandled "You'll be ready, I've got two Plumb's a Very Old Boy Scout Hatchet 12" Handle, And a 28" Handled Double Bit Axe and I like them both there "Awesome Choppers",

I picked up a Plumb hatchet at a garage sell in Daytona Beach. I'm in the process of fixing it up. Needs a new handle and a good edge put on it. It does feel good in the hand.

Plumb made some nice axes, with good basic geometry.
The handle on the hand axe looks sound from here. You
might try sanding it down and applying some linseed oil.
Unless you are lucky you may not find another that's as
well matched to the head.
'Nice find!

2 1/2 to 3 pounds and it has a 4' cutting edge

Well done ! I just did two a couple months ago and used them over the weekend. Most the time there better than the new ones you can buy.

you got one of my favorite choppers in that hand axe.
excellent steel. usually well turned out, although i have one with a thin side on the eye, all the others are top notch.

the old cutters are as far as i am concerned way better than the new ones. you have a fine tool now.

making a handle to fit is not as big a deal as you might think. look for straight grain, vertical with the eye.
have fun.

you also did a good job on the edge.
if you want take a look at Old Jimbos web site for some cool info on re-profiling an axe.
there is good thread on knifeforums also in the camping section.
all good
