2 questions for a ~7" Survival Knife, and opinions on Ontario quality

Most factory edges are.

Yep I was very disapointed with my kabar usmc short utility. Also the Recon Scout came just bearly passable. Much better now that I've convexed the edge (and get's better every time I resharpen, I love convex).

Bark River on the other hand, screaming sharp!

Swamp Rat without a doubt. You can pre-order a 6 inch satin finish version of the RMD right now. Awesome! ;)

I'd like to order one but that's in the top 10 of the most aggravating knife websites on the planet . I couldn't find any satin pre-order section, just the coated models which are nice and maybe cheaper? No specs, not nothing - pictures and color info. :(

Thanks for everyone's help. I snagged a SOD for a decent price. Can't wait to get that thing and start a choppin!

Congrats on your score! Did you get the CG or LE model? I love the handles - comfy. Other than the thickness of the blade, I've always thought of their size as a dedicated survival/fighting knife, being in the range of the USMC Kabar fighting knife. But I've seen some light chopping on YT and it cuts very well, probably rings around the Ka-bar for chopping anyway.

CG--would've preferred the LE, but I was impatient

If you really want it to chop, go with a Becker 9 or for a little more the esee junglas. 7-8 inch knives are okay to chop with but not great. The response about the srkw ratmandu is silly. I've owned one and you can't chop at all with it. Way too short for a chopper. You CAN baton the hell out of it though. Rust is a non issue with proper up keep. I live where it's wet. ;)

How well would a ratmandu fit in an ESEE 5/6 sheath? I love those sheath setups and both the ability to strap the altoid tin survival kit to the front, or attach a small knife like an Izula. If I could get away with using an ESEE sheath with a ratmandu Id order one in a heartbeat.

If not, do you have a good sheath rec for the ratmandu that would satisfy my needs?

I wouldnt be surprised if I end up with a howling rat as well. What sheath would be best for that one too?

Thanks
