First, I love this company.

Now for the questions:
1- Would the police3 be good for utility general use (like the endura)? or is it a dedicated self-defence blade?

2- Why is the manix discontinued? Did the chinook sell more than the manix? I cant believe that. Then why is the chinook in production while the manix is discontinued?

Assuming the laws where you live allow carrying knives with blades over 4" long, then the Police III would definitely be every bit as good for general utility use as the Endura.

Almost every knife Spyderco has ever discontinued, including the Manix, was dropped from the lineup due to poor sales. So yes, the Chinook must be selling reasonably well, as it's still in production.

1) It is speculation on my part since I don't have one, but the reinforced tip shape and overall dimensions tell me it is made for general use, not just as a weapon like the Civilian.
2) As far as I could tell, the Manix was discontinued to make room (free up production at Golden) for upcoming models. The Chinook has evolved more than the Manix did, which may be why it survived. It may also be that the leaf blade of the Manix is still represented in a number of other models, while the trailing point of the Chinook is not.

Man I loved that Manix. Probably the best feeling knife in my hand that I've ever felt. I just never had the $ to buy one.
