2 questions: Your edc grail/my edc grail

I've owned several "grails" and I seldom keep them. The most recent grail to leave my hands is this early Walter Brend #2. I carried it maybe a total of 2 weeks and realized it's too amazing to use.

I've been collecting knives for a long time and I sometimes think we deserve to actually use some of the amazing knives that we have. I understand how we don't seem to hang onto knives for very long, for various reasons, but I'm getting to the point where I want to pick a few that I am actually going to keep and use, or at least use as if I intend to keep them. I get tired of babying and not using knives because I don't want to damage them and I might want to sell them. I'm picking at least a few of my knives to actually use.

Here's a grail (to me)... A TGLB that can actually cut stuff... REK regrind.

I do carry and use it.

A Grail is NOT, I repeat, is NOT an easy to find production knife, nor is a Grail EVER a production knife.
A Grail is: the object of an extended to difficult quest.

Mine? A Kit Carson Red, White & Blued.

I guess it all depends on what you consider a grail. If your grail is something of rarity and exclusivity then yes a production may never be that. But if your grail is something that has useful qualities for actually using a knife there are many production knives that can easily be a grail. So yes a production knife can easily be a grail knife. In fact some of todays production folders have gotten closer to being my grail folder than many customs. And the same goes for fixed blades.

Well difficult quest is correct, but in my case a grail can be defined by price, in which case it could be a production model that happens to be outside of my price range. I've mentioned before interest in the Benchmade 908 in M4/CF. I would buy one except for the price, and I'm afraid that if I did manage to pay the price for it, it would not live up to my difficulty in getting it. So for now I stay content with my old used 913 in D2.

If it helps, I'm considering buying 1 or 2 more of these and one for my dad. For me personally, this is my favorite 3.5" knife I own and I consider my best "high abuse" knife. Very solid. Perfect size and weight. Couldn't be more pleased with it. I would say that D2 isn't even comparable to M4. I normally EDC 940s during the week/at work but if I know Im going to need a bigger beefier blade that I can rely on to get the job done, this is it. This is the largest/heaviest knife I would EDC. A true win for Benchmade. Id advise to jump on it while its available. or dont, more for me :D

sharp too :D
