I have this grinder for almost two years now. Still works. Good job with the blade. I just do not understand how did you grind the tight radiuses so accurately...

Great work wow!!!! I have heard nothing but good thigns, except for one or two flaming plastic guard stories about that little grinder.

It looks great. I don't know how you got such good grinds. I used mine for over 2 years before buying a Coote recently. People my look down on that grinder but I ground out a bunch of really big knives on it. It still runs fine, but I always had to finish mine by hand to get things really flat. You're showing a real knack already.

Ok I forgot the Finger notch was done with a Oscilating Spindle Sander after it was most of the way cut out with the band saw.

other tools used on this blade
band saw
Oscilating Spindle Sander.
I took off the plastic Guard and also cut off the sides of the platen to give a flat side and not the rounded one it came with. I will take a pic when it is done.

Larry,

I'd appreciate seeing photos of the modifications you have made to your sander? I'm considering buying this sander, and I'd like to see what you have done.

Great looking first knife!!!

Looks great! That's the grinder I'm using but mine don't turn out like that.:(

Larry nice job right out the gate, looks really clean from the start. Hopefully this will give that little Craftsman sander it's honor back. How hard was the 154 to work with? and is it 154cm?

I was planning to modify my craftsman grinder this weekend, when I noticed your post. Can you show a picture of your modification?

I'm planning to grind about a 2.5" section on each side of the rounded corners on the platen.

Knife looks great BTW.

I'd really like to see your modifications too. I'm trying to decide which sander to buy, and this could tip the scales for me.

Let me start by saying thanks for the compliments but I did try one other knife on this that I had to fix with Bruce's Grinder. I couldnt get it I was either going to fast or too slow not sure which. but with this one "The first one I roughed out" all the way on that grinder was the second knife i tried with it. for the modifications Bruce was a great help cutting and grinding. not a lot was needed to take off the sided just enough that the belt still fit on it all the way across so the flat is 2 inches wide. I use the tracking to move the belt if i need to. You will see in the photo's the plastic guard behind the sander. it is the only real plastic part near the belt.

This is a pretty good grinder for the money. I see loads of belts on ebay cheap too. Also the fact that it has a disc is a real plus.

The ceramic liner makes a huge difference. It is a decent little grinder if you are just starting out. Great job with that blade!
