TL;DR: Contact wheel or small wheel holder?

Hey everyone, I’ve finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase a 2 x 72. I’m gonna go with the Pheer 454, 1.5 HP and VFD package. My question to all of you is, if I could only get one attatchment (along with a flat platen and took rest) between a contact wheel and a small wheel holder, what should it be?

I technically can afford both but it’ll push the price over 2k which seems a little bit extreme (considering that I’ve only been doing this for a few months)

Yeah, if you don't have a definite need for contact wheel, get the small wheel. You WILL use it.
And you probably don't want to buy a contact wheel until you know what you are going to do with it. Whatever that job is will inform the size wheel you want. Or wheels.....

I would go for the small wheel as well. It is the main reason I would get an upgrade from my grizzly.

Like Mark said, get a contact wheel once you know what you will use it for. It you really like hollow grinds, then get a contact wheel.

Yep. Small wheel setup with a 3/4" wheel if you can only get one. Get a large contact wheel from ali express. I think a 10"(250 mm) runs about $80. Make sure to get it with 1/2" i.d. bearings, or whatever bearing you want. They will bore pockets of your choosing and send it with or without bearings.

I completely agree, go with the small wheels first. And then get contact wheels from Aliexpress (seller L-Paladin).

Yep small wheel if you really can't get both. Get a 8 or 10" contact as soon as you can. There's plenty of ways to use it even if you don't hollow grind. I use mine to hog material off when profiling blades, it saves wear and tear on my flat platen. I use it on every handle that I shape as well. Can't have too many attachments:D

Not anything left for me to say, Mike says it all. Looks like it's 100% vote for small wheel.
