I did the initial blade grind on the Pass Around Bowie just about 2 years ago. Does anybody know where it is and how much longer it will be before we see the completed project?

Barry, I'm sorry,I meant to post this before my surgery but forgot. I've got the bowie. The guard is soldered on and now we need someone with experience working with mammoth ivory to fix up the ivory slabs and put them and the bolsters on the knife. I tried cleaning the backs of the ivory up but I'm afraid I don't know how and I don't wanna mess em up. Anyone interested???

If nobody else is in line to work on the handle.Just send it on to me and I will be glad to set the Bolsters and the Ivory scales.
Bruce:cool:

I cant remember who was supposed to mount the scales and bolsters but If Bruce E wants to do them I say great! Im still da man for getting my friend to do the engraving. Send it here when the time is right.

I'm just curious, who will end up with this bowie, and what will come of it when it is completed.

After the bowie is finished it'll come back to me and then we have to decide whether we want to auction it or raffle it. Seems like the raffle for $5 per ticket was the most popular idea way back. Gives about everyone a shot at owning one fine custom made knife.

Then where does the money go, do you divide it up between all those that worked on the knife or do you make a donation to a honorable charity. I'm just being curious (nosy).

I rcieved the Bowie today,Thanks L6

The Ivory is very dry and trying to peel on the back side.Would anyone object to me running it through my stabilizer before I attach it to the handle?

I will need to know where to send it next also.

Do you want me to Buff the guard and handle or is there someone else in line to do that ?
Are we putting the Nickel silver pins in the handle scales with everything else being Brass or would you rather I put Brass pins in the Handle scales also ?

Thanks,
Bruce

I think stabilizing it would be a great idea. What are you using for stabilant? I like to try different stabilants and am always curious what everyone else is using.
Thanks
Leonard

I am using a thined Polyurethane formost things but I have some stuff that I forgot the name of that Dr. Jim Lucey and Alex Daniels use.I called Alex and asked him about this Ivory and he said that I needed to use the polyurethane as the layers are separating and if I don't get it fused together somehow the pieces will not be usable and in that case I would put some Mammoth Ivory that i have now on it.But I am going to try and salvage these scales first.

Bruce, do what ever you want to with it. If you have the time, go ahead and finish it too. Then send it to Jens Anso for a sheath. Jens, can you please email Bruce your address?? Thanks guys for helping with this!! Almost wish I'd never brought the idea up in the first place. Never expected it to take over 2 years.

L6,Bruce Bump was going to have it engraved so I will send it to him and let him buff it if he wants and then get the engraving done then we can ship it for the sheath,Or do you want the sheath first..
Bruce

Just send to me when ever.......Is it still going to Sweeden for a scriwshaw?

Also...original planned witht he sheath was that I should get a peice of alligator along with the knife......is that still comming?

I didn't see any aligator skin in with the knife parts that I have gotten.
I will get the Ivory in the stabilizer today,But will take it a few days to cure before I will try attaching it to the handle.I hope I have it done before my symposium on the 29 th of October. But that is getting close and I have to get the shop ready for it.
I have contacted Bruce Bump to find out if he wanted to do the final finish,as my time is kind of tied up at the moment...
Bruce
