20 Below Zero

Sometimes it amazes me how many dayum yankees live near me here in Atlanta. We got more people from up in the dreaded waste than southerners. Then I read a thread like this and hear Runs say they got crappy snowy junky hell (and relatively few good lookin women) and MOSQUITOS too. No wonder y'all are migrating down here like Mexicans swimming the Rio Grande. Whats to stay for?

While I know this does not define physical or spiritual freedom, I can step outside and piss on a tree without being arrested and beaten. Hooray for Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska.

 :D  What more need I say?

Coldest I have ever experienced was -60 with 40-60mph wind in 20 foot seas plowing through the ice trying to stay ahead of the worst of it. January 1988 around St. Matt's in Bearing sea.

It's been getting nippier lately.

I don't know what the temperature is, but things got weird today. A can of brake cleaner stored outside stopped spraying and started dribbling. It resumed spraying after an hour indoors. The VW started after firing the glow plugs twice but layed down a veritable smokescreen on the driveway and didn't stop stuttering until I was downtown - with doped and winterized fuel. Oscar the Attack Cat, upon being offered a trip outside, cringed behind the door for a moment before meowing in rage and retreating. The furnace's lowest setting is 50 F and it just kicked on by itself, so I at least have an idea of what the temperature is inside. The sun was out, though, so all in all it was a good day.

Are we having a cold spell? That's twice that the furnace turned itself on today.

Munk, you will know when it's truly cold when your tree is surrounded by yellow icecubes.

I was raised just outside of Newnan Georgia. Couldn't make me leave Alaska to go back there for all the tea in China.:D

Good for you. Nothing is for everyone. Never been to Alaska, but I hear its breathtaking.

Was raised right between Senoia and Sharpsburg. It was a good place to grow up. Had a quarter mile driveway, and at least sixty four acres to roam.

Shot off the front porch daily, rode motorcycles all over Spent lots of time in the woods killing furry woodland critters and peed wherever I wanted to...:D

Just like everyplace though, the crowds came, and my family went. Just like what's happening here in Wasilla now...:(

I do miss the history of the South. Not that Alaska is lacking in history, it's just not quite as rich or easy to come by. I used to really enjoy the roadside historical markers in Georgia, and strangely enough love the old cemetaries.

Alaska is breathtakingly beautiful, and there's still plenty of elbow room. We also maintain alot of personal freedom up here. It's a good place for the right person, but a horrible place for the wrong persons. Hence the high rate of suicide, DV,depression, etc.

Hey, I do that all the time off the balconey at my second floor apartment.
Of course, I'm not in Montana, either. The downstairs neighbors have been complaining aboput those darn alley cats... stinkin up the neighborhood. Truthfully I never thought of myself as an alley cat, but I'm not from Montana either..... yet..... that is!

THROW ON MORE FIREWOOD AND YOU WILL WARM RIGHT UP... SO THEY TELL ME!

Those lower air temperatures will reduce your oil viscosity and make oil circulating difficult... thus you get a dry cold start with friction and exhaust smoke. Invest in an oil preheater to warm up your oil prior to starting your vehicle. Flip a switch minutes before starting your car and WALLAHWWW you get oil that will circulate. Dry cold starts are damaging to VW'S.

Hey, you go ahead and piss anyplace you like!
If anybody bothers you - tell em I said it was alright!
