I was lucky enough to aquire 2 industrial bandsaw wheels that were slightly over 1" wide. I had a machine shop turn them both down to 1" wide and sent them both to SunRay for new rubber (poly urethane) actually at 90 durometer hardness. I'm keeping one and selling the second one so I can have mine for free. Good thinking eh?
Anyway I'm tossing in 1" shaft made of 4140 to sweeten the deal.
This wheel is made in the USA and of very high quality. It has two set screws instead of a keyway. A machine shop could cut a keyway for you but the large fine thread set screws may be plenty adequate to hold the wheel onto the shaft.

I need $350 plus $25 UPS shipping to break even. Not a bad price considering what you can do with this wheel. The narrower 1" width is excellent for inside radius grinding such as on tactical blades. I'm using mine for pocket knives as my 2" is not suited as well as this will be. I,m designing and building an entire new grinder for mine. It will be only 3/4 hp variable speed and geared with pulleys so the surface feet per minute is very low for adequate control and low temperature grinds.

Here are some pictures

No comments whatsoever? Too much money? Maybe so but this is a quality item. I could come down on the price I suppose. Too much trouble to adapt to a grinder? I should show you guys what I have in mind with mine. Its going to be a very useful addition to my shop.

I'd be all over this Bruce if it weren't bad timing on the finances. I think the price is fair, but yeah, you better show people what this can be used for. I'm guessing you'll get a quick sale then.

Thanks for replying Javand,
I think you're right, if it doesn't sell soon I,m going to show my grinder on here. I don't think people have my vision of the possibilities. The big wheel is a great hollow grind. A standard 72" belt will work if a small drive wheel is used. Maybe folks think they have to go to a 132" belt, if fact you can split a 2 x 72 belt and get 2) 1" wide belts.

I enjoy making grinders. This one won't cost me very much compared to other variable speed more powerful grinders such as a KMG clone. With this lighter weight narrow wheel I look at it as an extremely accurate machine capable of grinding small blades with high precision but with very little cash outlay.

How do you plan to track the belt on this wheel? I am interested.

John,
I plan to make the drive shaft assembly swivel at its mount. It only needs a small amount of movement for a large amount of tracking depending on how much dome the drive wheel has. A flat drive wheel is very sensitive as compared to a domed drive wheel.

I as well have been looking for a 1" wide 20" wheel. If only this was post Blade.
