20 Years Ago Today . . . . September 11, 2001 . . . Lest We Forget . . . .

Gotta say, I didn't watch any of the stuff on TV beyond the ringing of the bells, announcing of the names. Watched it every year since that started at the reflecting pools. I don't need to see it, I saw it the first time, live, in real time. The memories of that day, what you saw on the news, live in real time, you can't forget them. You can not be unaffected by the sights, the sounds, the tears, of that moment. Listening live to the cell phone calls on the air with people who were above, and below the fires in those towers. Knowing when the lines went dead while watching it on TV that those were their last words. The shock of the reporters when people started jumping, the audible thuds. You had to be there to truly comprehend.
But there would become a moment that I can't think of being any prouder, any happier about which was the moment that this country, all the people, where race, religion, political persuasion, none of that had the slightest meaning, We were united as a country with a resolve, 100%, that someone is going to get an ass whooping. I dream today of a country that can one day be as united as we were then. It's quite sad that in fact, politicians, media, they have divided us more than imaginable.
I happened to be working in my home office on this day so I was able to see it all from the first plane strike. at this point all the news stations were full on and heading the the towers. The first plane was baffling, no one knew wth, just thought it was an accident. But then the second plane hit, there was the shift. At this point, everyone knew, this is bad. Then, this is when all aircraft were ordered to land at the nearest possible airport. unprecedented in history, had never been done before.
Funny thing is, I had just that summer completed my flight training and got my pilots license. I knew at this moment, flying would never be the same as far as freedoms go. Air travel would never be the same. There was no such thing as the TSA. So many things would never be the same.
I really miss the unity, the patriotism, the feeling as one across every divide so widely exploited by politicians and media today. I miss when we were strong and called BS yet so many fall like paper toys to today.
A moment like that day and the days that followed leave a mark on ones soul, unique and special in some way to each individual who saw, who heard, who knew, life would never be the same.

I got this shortly after from some fund raiser. It's been on half a dozen key chains since so yeah, never forget is kind of a thing with this moment in history and all it concerns, how it changed life forever, took lives and cost so many for 20 years.
